Odd mix of history this week around, spanning numerous decades. Open your books to page 958.
On October 28, 1994 one of the worst games ever made hit shelves as Shaq Fu came into our lives. Seriously… go play it… you’ll appreciate everything since.
Japan got the Sega Mega Drive on October 19, 1998, later known on US shores as the Genesis.
The first Call of Duty came to be on October 29, 2003, spawning numerous sequels and trillions of hateful forum posts.
Mat Mania hit arcades on October 31, 1985. This early pro wrestling hit inspired the possibly better known NES classic Pro Wrestling, and had the coolest referee count ever.
Atari’s Night Driver hit the street on November 2, 1977… so named because we didn’t have backgrounds back then. The car was a sticker on the screen, too. It was all we had and we freakin’ took it like men!
Check back each Monday for more walks down memory lane in this rich and pixel filled world of gaming history. Class dismissed.
Patrick Scott Patterson – who has written 82 posts on The Jace Hall Show.
Patrick Scott Patterson is a Video game personality & historian who has been gaming since 1981. He contributes two weekly columns for The Jace Hall Show: "This Week In Video Game History" and "This Week in Gaming News".

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
