Bioware is still working on Mass Effect 3 with its biggest DLC just around the corner and they are already making plans for ME4. One thing the development studio has said is that it will certainly not be starring a character similar to Commander Shepard.
Recently some of the folks at Bioware Montreal spoke with VG247 about the future of the Mass Effect franchise and the direction it will be taking.
As most of us know, Bioware said that it never intended the franchise to end after the current trilogy and is hard at work throwing around ideas for the next installment.
There is one thing we know for sure at this point is that, although it will exist inside the same universe as the current ME trilogy, it will be a completely separate experience focusing on a different main protagonist.
VG247 asked BioWare Montreal producer, Fabrice Condominas, at a recent EA event about the approach the development team will be taking to the franchise post-trilogy. Condominas replied with, “There is one thing we are absolutely sure of – there will be no more Shepard, and the trilogy is over.”
Fabrice goes on to explain about the early stages and how a time period has yet to be chosen for the new story, “This is really our starting point. Now the Mass Effect universe is vast, and very, very rich. So at this point in time, we don’t even know what kind of time frame we’re going to be in. All we’re doing is more gathering ideas from the teams,” as well as pouring over feedback and comments from the community.
“So first, we don’t want to make ‘Shepard 2′, or Mass Effect 4 with like, ‘oh there’s no more Shepard but you’re a soldier in the universe’. So this will be a very, very different context for sure, and nothing has been decided on the rest.”
In other ME news we have a price and release date for Mass Effect 3′s third single-player DLC, Omega. The pack will be the largest ever offered and according to producer Mike Gamble is “double the size” of the previous largest add-on content. The Omega DLC will be available on November 27th on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for $15 (1200 MS Points).

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
