Sony has announced today that Killzone: Mercenary will be dropping on September 17. Mercenary is an all new PS Vita entry in the series powered by the Killzone engine. Check out the new gameplay trailer Sony uploaded below. We also have some new screenshots from the game courtesy of GT.
The story in Killzone: Mercenary continues after the events of the original Killzone and follows the story of a merc by the name of Arran Danner. As former UCA soldier Danner, players will take on paid contracts from both the ISA and the Helghast.
“When a seemingly routine mission to evacuate the Vektan Ambassador and his family in Pyrrhus goes awry, Danner discovers that the outcome of the war could very well depend on the fate of the Ambassador’s young son. With both sides going to increasingly desperate lengths to get hold of the boy, he begins to wonder whether the price of victory is really worth the paycheck.”
The game will feature “nine single-player missions — each nearly an hour in length.” Upon completing missions additional challenges and objectives will unlock. Mercenary also includes a full multiplayer suite with 8 player matches, in 6 different maps with three game types including “Warzone.”
The game also features an interesting payout system as well. “In keeping with the soldier-for-hire theme, every action in Killzone: Mercenary is rewarded. The better you perform, the higher your payout – not just in the single-player campaign, but also in the multiplayer mode. The wages you collect are deposited into a single bank account, so the money you earn in the campaign missions can also be used to buy gear and weapons for multiplayer matches, and vice versa.”

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
