Baltimore-based hip hop artist Teddy Faley has lots of love for Mario, specifically Super Mario Bros. 2: he’s based the artwork from his latest batch of MP3s on the character selection screen from the same game.
Faley also has a lot of love for longtime rap duo Mobb Deep, and manages to mix the two to (surprisingly) awesome effect.
While using video game soundtracks and sound effects in hip-hop is nothing new, but it turns out that pasting Mobb Deep vocals over Mario sound effects as part of the backing track would work so well: “Drop a Shell on Em” combines the pipe-warp sounds of the game with the lyrics of Havoc and Prodigy, which, according to Cnet, are taken straight from the CD and still NSFW.
“Keep it Thoro” borrows bits from Super Mario World, while promising someone that “they’re gonna catch a f*ckin’ bullet.” His version of “Quiet Storm” takes the MD song of the same name and makes it better, adding melodies from the game that capture the spirit of the group.
It only makes sense that somehow Faley teams up with Beat Down Boogie and their Mario/Modern Warfare crossover videos. Maybe in addition to their Hans Zimmer-esque score, they could use hip-hop songs like these. Hell, given Havoc and Prodigy’s recent and very public feud, maybe Faley’s just the one to act as a mediator.
Here’s a set of Faley’s five brand new songs, which you can download for free:

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
