So you want to make chiptunes? It may not be as not difficult as you thought.
Producer/chiptunes guru The Sigh Wonder, who’s already earned somewhat of a reputation just churning out remixed versions of songs by artists like Ratatat, recently released a set of step-by-step instructions on how to make tunes in the style of Anamanaguchi, Bit Shifter and others (keeping in mind it’s also taken hundreds of hours invested in the craft to do it as well).
Just one part of a two-part series (with the second part soon to be released) of instructions on how to import, program and produce, Sigh covers everything here from first importing the basic drum beats and blips and beats in the form of .wav files to the final steps of making a solid beat for your chiptunes song.
While you supposedly need to have the FL Studio program (Fruity Loops Studio) what he’s doing isn not all that different from Audacity or Pro Tools and should give you a basic idea on how to get started in those programs as well. You can check out Sigh’s YouTube page here for more of his ‘Producer Snafu’ bits and takes on life. All right, so it’s clearly not as easy to make chiptunes either, but Sigh’s intro here gives you a pretty good head start:
Jeff Nau – who has written 1264 posts on The Jace Hall Show.
Jeff Nau is a main contributor to the Jace Hall Show covering pop culture and music trends in the nerd community. He has contributed to San Diego City Beat, 944, and Ill Literature, amongst others, and spends his spare time working as an artist and photographer.

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
