Today Kalypso Media dropped a new trailer for its upcoming physics based platformer, Alien Spidy. The game is coming to Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network for Mac, Windows and PC in early 2013 (via Polygon).
Those who have gone hands on with the title describe an addictive and challenging platformer reminiscent of games like Super Meat Boy and Limbo.
The story in Alien Spidy is set when Spidy loses contact with his friend Virgi and must travel to Earth in his ship to find her.

Despite Prometheus‘ fairly impressive box office records, critics seemed divided on how the movie itself worked. This was mainly due to how stupid those Weyland scientists were in their willingness to reach out and touch alien life. Hopefully this explains it all.
Even Roger Ebert, who gave the film 4 stars, acknowledged this shortcoming when he posted this video by BarelyPolitical, entitled “Pre-Prequel Prometheus,” which focuses on Weyland Industries’ highly-regimented science training refresher course. ‘Why’d you go into science if you didn’t want to poke aliens?’ Continue reading “Reach Out and Touch Snakes: Prometheus’ Pre-Prequel Explains Why Those Scientists Are So Dumb” »

I can’t think of a better duo of reviewers/hosts to delve into the problems with Prometheus than Red Letter Media, a couple of semi-comatose possibly serial-killing movie goers who may or may not work at Target, to analyze the movie — and do it so well and entertainingly. Lots of the usual questions pop up, and ones I tried my best to ignore, to no avail.
The most obvious ones first:
-Why would the characters respond to potentially hostile and creepy looking alien life by wanting to reach out and PET it?
-While we’re at it, how could such ‘bright’ scientists be so f*cking dumb? Continue reading “The Rant: Let’s Talk About PROMETHEUS, Baby (SPOILERS)” »

To call Ridley Scott’s Prometheus the most anticipated science fiction movie in years could very well be an understatement. Even Avatar didn’t have this much riding on it — the overwhelming hype was mitigated by knowing it was, after all, Hollywood untouchable James Cameron, that it was an entirely new world/saga/set of characters, and that the super-technical 3D and new technology would sort of overshadow the Pocahontas-cum-Dances With Wolves plotline.
But with Prometheus, critics seem intent on getting an Alien prequel out of the film, even if it’s not really there — and it’s being reflected in their reviews. Thus, if you were hoping for across the board, glowing, A+ ratings, you’re not going to get them. Far from it, in fact: Continue reading “The Reviews Are In: Just How Good/Bad/Mediocre is Alien Semi-Prequel Prometheus?” »

If there’s one auteur who’s known for not suffering fools, it’s Sir Ridley Scott. Via Bleeding Cool, the Blade Runner/Alien/Thelma & Louise director railed against the MPAA for its hypocrisy and overall lack of logic, at least when it comes to its method of doling out ratings. Apparently all it took was an audience member at a recent screening of Prometheus scenes, asking him what the rating would be:

Maybe some people really would like to see director James Cameron sink to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, only without any kind of submersible to protect him. They’re gonna have to wait, it looks like, because the legendary director is getting ready to literally chart some new undersea territory.
In this case, he will become the very first person in more than 50 years to attempt diving into The Mariana Trench — the lowest point in the ocean – following the descent of the Trieste submersible, manned by Don Walsh and Jacques Piccard back in 1960.
It’s a dive that goes approximately 7 miles deep Continue reading “James Cameron Gets Deep: Director Will Sink to the Lowest Point on Earth” »

Over the past century or so, experts from all over the spectrum of ‘expertise’ have weighed in differently on how to deal with the hypothetical possibility of an alien invasion. From H.G./Orson Wells War of the Worlds, back in 1938, when a feigned hostile alien invasion resulted in mass panic; to Carl Sagan’s Contact, where peaceful aliens seem only to want to exchange information and explore our world — and then to 2010, when renowned astrophysicist/astro-pimp Stephen Hawking reinforces the likelihood of the Wells’ scenario.
And while about 30 years ago, Hollywood loved throwing ‘happy’ alien films like E.T., Starman, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind at us, over the past couple decades sh*t like Independence Day and Signs seem to offer the probability of the opposite. If we’re going to look to the experts, though, shouldn’t we go to the best of the best? Continue reading “Aliens Invading? Don’t Look to Bill Nye for Help” »

For all the Alien aficionados out there who grew up on the masterpieces that were Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic and James Cameron’s militarized, squad-based sequel, you probably remember that Ellen Ripley and her cohorts battled two big evils throughout the franchise. Not just those nasty Giger-designed xenomorphs, but that other ultimate Satan, a massive conglomerate known as Weyland-Yutani aka “The Company.”
In a sorta-brilliant marketing move, Prometheus/Alien prequel director Ridley Scott projects 11 years into the future with a fake-TED conference featuring Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland, Continue reading “Guy Pearce Stars in Some Brilliant Marketing for Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ Prequel ‘Prometheus’” »

Your prayers have been answered…
O.G. socialite hooker Heidi Fleiss and Moonlight Bunny Ranch owner Dennis Hof have teamed to open what is surely the greatest thing since, well, the Moonlite Bunny Ranch: The Alien Cathouse Brothel.
Straight outta Area 51, this science fiction-themed hooker palace will be conjoined with – what else – a gas station and food store, officially designated as The Alien 51 Travel Center. According to TIME, there’s an opening date scheduled for sometime in the next few months. Continue reading “Science Fiction-Themed Brothel To Open Next Year” »
