Moon Rift is a 2.5D platformer shooter with a “virtually limitless amount of insane guns to collect!” The game is currently in development by sole creator Sam Hutcher and will be releasing for Android and iOS later this year, followed by PC, Linux, OUYA and Mac releases.
Think a 2.5D Borderlands-like experience with random levels and procedurally generated enemies. “I wanted to focus a little more on the old school RPG feel, Hutcher tells us. “I would have to say game draws a lot of inspiration from games like Zelda or the old Final Fantasies, as well as the shoot em up games like Borderlands.”

Leonard Menchiari’s made a name for himself in the gaming world: helping VALVE create some of its most famous titles; directing a popular gaming short (“Half Life: Singularity Collapse”); and now, alongside fellow designer Mattia Traverso, working on a mysterious Indiegogo-funded mobile game that has a lot to do with riots. Suffice it to say, the guy’s been busy lately.
Yesterday, Menchiari tweeted that his new Indiegogo-funded game ‘Riot’ had met its official goal of $15,000. We touched base with the game designer and director from his home in Italy — which is currently in the midst of more turmoil than almost any other nation in the EU, and Menchiari claims has been his chief inspiration — about what his game entailed, and what had inspired it. Usagi’s one-and-only game thus far has been the 1988 Commodore 64 game, The Legend of Usagi Yojimbo (which wasn’t as bad as it could have been). Safe to say Stan Sakai’s epic samurai sword-wielding, decapitating ronin bunny rabbit needs an update in the gaming world.
Now, however, it looks as though the legendary comic/manga may finally be getting the game treatment it deserves. We hope. Continue reading “RYAAAAAAH! Epic Manga/Comic USAGI YOJIMBO Gets His Own Mobile Game” »

OLPC, better known as One Laptop Per Child, decided to conduct a random and odd experiment: give illiterate Ethiopian children a bunch of deactivated Motorola Zoom tablets.
Within 5 months, the children — all of whom had never so much as read a printed word — had not only figured out how to work the computers’ OS’, but also activate certain disabled hardware on the tablets. Continue reading “Illiterate Kids in Ethiopia Hack Disabled Computers” »

Earlier this morning the popular OUYA Kickstarter campaign came to a close, as I’m sure you know, well above its initial goal. With a total of 63,416 backers the OUYA received a total of $8,596,475 in funding when it was all said and done.
Back in July OUYA set a now seemingly modest funding goal of $950,000 when the Kickstarter campaign went up. Within a short 7 hours the campaign became the most successful Kickstarter project to date.
Ouya founder and CEO Julie Urhman told IGN back in July, Continue reading “DAILY GAMING: Ouya Kickstarter Ends at over $8.5 million, Four Controller Support” »

As we reported a couple days ago, Ouya recently claimed the #1 spot for most amount of money ever collected by a Kickstarter project, with totals now running close to $4 million.
With a ton of hype surrounding the upcoming open-source Android-powered Ouya, should everyone who thought it up try to concoct a way to both meet the goal and maybe deliver a bit more? Seems like there’s a whole lot of pressure on everyone involved to make it work…. Continue reading “Could Ouya Be a Problem for Investors?” »

Business Insider recently observed that Android is “Suddenly In A Lot Of Trouble.” The reasons are numerous but it all boils down to a few things: shoddy attention to detail, poor cross platform support for apps (making development difficult) and an overall inconsistant user experience across the board.
Everyone knows that games are consistently the #1 selling category on mobile devices…upwards of 60-70% of all “app store sales” happen to be games – so it is logical that if you want your platform to skyrocket in popularity, you want to get games right.
Unfortunately…the reality is that games just don’t work good on Android. Continue reading “How Google Has Kicked Android Gaming Directly In The Balls” »
