Square Enix’s highly acclaimed DS title ‘The World Ends With You’ landed in the App store this weekend. The iOS version of the title is completely reworked for the platform and includes some added functionality as well.

Originally developed for the DS by personnel from Nintendo’s Kingdom Hearts team, ‘The World Ends With You’ (‘It’s A Wonderful World’ in Japan) is an action RPG set in modern day Shibuya, Tokyo. In the DS version, some complained the game can be complicated at times both because of its original approach to combat and the steep learning curve of the game’s battle system.

The Walking Dead iOS game based on the popular TV series hit the App Store today. Telltale Games confirmed the launch date of title earlier this week with a post on its official blog. Walking Dead: The Game, episode 1, will cost you $4.99 in the App Store.

You play as Lee Everett, in what is an entirely new story, where he will be accompanied and must protect a young orphaned girl named Clementine from both the undead and other human survivors.

The description of the title hints that the gameplay will be much deeper than your average zombie experience, “This is not another shoot ‘em up; it’s a game that explores some very dark psychological places,” continuing to say that the undead aren’t Continue reading “DAILY MOBILE: The Walking Dead iOS – Episode 1 Available Now” »

We’ve told you in the past about developers that are paying up to $5000 in some cases to get in the Top 25 rankings of the App Store. Obviously apps that get into the list are more likely to be downloaded by users who think they’ve done something to deserve the ranking. Apple is starting to crack down more on these shady developers, but a new story today from Businessweek shows just how serious of a problem it really is.

According to the report, the company Gtekna run by Chang-Min Pak made approximately $2 million dollars last year manipulating Continue reading “Former Adobe Engineer Made $2 Million Manipulating App Store Top Charts” »

The exploration of the vast world of Skyrim has just been made a little more manageable thanks to the Skyrim Official World Interactive Map app for iOS. Bethesda has teamed up with Prima Games to release this free app available on iTunes now.

Skyrim Official World Interactive Map brings the 3200x zoomable world of Skyrim to your iPhone and iPad. Other apps of this sort, most notably Dragon Shout, are already available but lack the level of detail offered through Prima’s app. However, the app may not be quite stable yet on iPad 2, according to The Verge, they’re currently getting a ”Please wait while loading data” error.  Another downside is the app is only currently available via the US App Store. We told you the other day that Apple was seemingly cracking down on knockoff apps in the App Store with some of the most popular clones from at least one developer recently being removed. It looks like Apple may have another issue on its hands with reports originating from this TouchArcade thread claiming developers are paying approximately $5000 to get in the Top 25 rankings of the App Store. In fact, up to eight apps in the top 25 were promoted by the same shady service employing bots to run up downloads and automatically rate apps.

The post comes from an iOS developer who was in search of a way of promoting his new app when coming across an ad network who guaranteed to get it in the Top 25 for $5000. When questioning the ad network on exactly how they can accomplish this, the developer said the company openly explained its process: Continue reading “Developers Are Paying $5000 To Get Top 25 Ranking in App Store Charts, Apple Issues Warning” »

Even though some of the biggest iOS developers like Rovio are embracing piracy of its incredibly popular Angry Birds franchise, knockoffs like Misunderstood Pigs and Super Jump World by the NER Brothers may not be safe for long. The Guardian reported Apple today started to remove a number of notable fakes from the App Store, most of which are the work of one developer.

Anton Sinelnikov is the creator of Plants vs. Zombie, Angry Ninja Birds, Temple Jump, Tiny Birds, Zombie Air Highway, and Numbers With Friends. They are all clones of some of the most popular games from some of the biggest developers and publishers like Temple Run, Words With Friends, and PopCap’s Plants vs. Zombies. The worst part is many people have been scammed out of money thinking they were buying the real thing. Fortunately Apple has finally stepped up and removed the app’s. If you wondered why Rovio hasn’t done anything about those Angry Birds knock offs floating around the App Store and Android Market (like Misunderstood Pigs), it might be because the company actually thinks piracy is a good thing.

At a conference in Cannes this morning, Rovio’s chief executive Mikael Hed told the publication about his unique views on piracy as one of the most successful mobile game developers/publishers. Although he noted that the Angry Birds franchise faces a ton of piracy from apps to consumer goods, he ultimately said they plan to learn from the music industry’s mistakes and embrace piracy. A new app called Tactical Nav developed by U.S. Army captain Jonathan Springer was designed specifically to help soldiers in combat. Bloomberg interviewed Springer at his base at Fort Bragg in North Carolina:

“I wanted to give something back to soldiers that might help save their lives”

Taking advantage of the iPhone’s camera and built-in GPS, Tactical Nav has been downloaded by approximately 8,000 troops and hunters across the U.S., Canada, and Australia. The app allows users to plot navigational waypoints on a map using the military grid reference system (MGRS) used by NATO Armed Forces and U.S. Military. When we hear that developers are using Unreal Engine to develop an iPhone game our ears perk up. This given the fact titles like Infinity Blade have shown us exactly what the tech is capable of, even on a platform lacking the processing power of its home console counterparts. With the developer’s goal being to bring “the quality of BioShock or Half-Life to the mobile” space, we can’t wait to see how The Dark Meadow turns out. We told you back in June about Bungie’s Aerospace initiative to encourage and back indie devs creating titles for XBLA and mobile devices such as Apple’s iPad. Today the company’s first iOS game, Crimson Steam Pirates, is available as a free download on the App Store.

Don’t expect Halo on your iPad, however. Crimson Steam Pirates is a turn-based strategy/action game that sees you command a fleet of Steampunk pirates while you “anticipate your enemies’ moves and counter them, luring them into a deadly hail of weapons fire…”.
