china factory workersWith a recent incident involving protesting workers at Xbox component supplier Foxconn’s factory in Shanghai, there is no better time for Apple to tighten its policies on protecting its workers abroad.

Foxconn has come under scrutiny related to working conditions as one of Apple’s biggest partners, suppliers, and assemblers as well.

In order to improve their auditing process of overseas suppliers, Apple today announced that they would be allowing the Fair Labor Association to access their supplier’s factories in order to inspect and keep an eye on working conditions. The FLA will publish independent reports of its findings on its own website. Apple is the first technology company the FLA has accepted for membership. apple to appleThe guys over at MBAOnline have put together this new infographic showing off just how the world’s biggest tech company (who has more cash than the U.S. government) compares to America’s favorite fruit of the same name.

Within the infograph we learn a few interesting stats. For instance, did you know that for the price of one iPhone 4S you could buy approximately 2000 apples? The study bases the number on the price of an unlocked 16GB iPhone 4S to apples at a rate of around $1 per pound.

We learn that in 2009 there were approximately 71,000,000 tons of apples produced Continue reading “Apple to Apples: Our Favorite Tech Products vs America’s Favorite Fruit” »

google musicWhen we think of our music collection these days, we often think of our iPods and Apple. It’s not surprising given just how important Apple’s ecosystem with iTunes and iOS has been to the music industry for both artists and consumers.

However, with the market for dedicated MP3 players like the iPod shrinking as smartphones become our main music players, Google’s planning on offering a new music service for Android users to compete with iTunes.

The images below were leaked Continue reading “Google’s Answer to iTunes? Android Music Store Dropping This Week” »

Apple killed flash photoWell, according to Adobe at least, Apple is the one to blame for the recent death of Flash. Adobe recently made the passing of flash official, all while touting HTML5 as the way of the future. This all comes as quite a surprise for anyone familiar with Adobe’s persistence in keeping the platform alive despite Apple’s unwillingness to include it in their iOS platforms.

Steve Jobs made Apple’s stance on not including Flash in iOS devices like the iPad and iPhone clear in an open letter entitled “Thoughts on Flash”. He also stated in the past that Adobe Continue reading “Flash is Dead, and It’s Apple’s Fault” »

Apple Steve Jobs Portrait using applesWe’ve seen a lot of creative Steve Jobs tributes since the computer industry pioneer passed away earlier this month. Apple closed stores and posted tributes from over a million fans who wrote in to the rememberingsteve@apple.com memorial, then an iPhone 4S was sent into space in tribute of Jobs, followed by probably the most incredible hair art tribute haircut you’ll see.

Sony Pictures is even rumored to be acquiring the rights for a big screen biopic. Continue reading “Artist Recreates Steve Jobs Portrait using 3,500 Macintosh Apples” »

Just in case you are wondering how Siri integration will work on the new iPhone 4S, below we’ll walk you through what you can expect from Apple’s new voice-controlled personal assistant. As you can see from the video below, the feature allows you to control tasks on your phone such as scheduling calendar items, reading and sending emails, sending texts, searching the web, and presumably anything that could be controlled using a voice command.

You can activate the feature by simply holding the home button briefly, much the same as the iPhone 4′s current Voice Control feature Continue reading “Apple’s new Siri personal assistant for iPhone 4S explained” »

It’s official…Apple just sent out invites confirming the rumored October 4th keynote, which judging by the “Let’s Talk iPhone” tagline on the invite, will definitely be next-gen iPhone related. The event, as rumored, will be held at Apple’s own campus in Cupertino, California. Continue reading “Apple confirms new iPhone launch for October 4th” »
