call-of-duty-black-ops-ii-xbox-360-1352797181-337Activision has announced today that it is introducing microtransactions to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on the Xbox 360. As much as the very mention of in-game transactions scares us, Activision is promising that the game will not become unbalanced and that there is no pay-to-win system in place here.

Activision has renamed its microtransactions, to Micro Items and refers to them as “little luxuries” that will in no way negatively affect the game. The Micro Items will be available starting tomorrow March 13.

When we last featured YouTubers 2 Asian Dudes, they were seen running through an outdoor mall in Avengers costumes and chasing after a rather strange-looking, shoddily-dressed Loki.

Now the Dudes have returned, exchanging public mayhem for an evening on the couch with a girl playing Black Ops 2.

It involves some rather stunning gymnastics, just not the kind you were probably expecting — specifically, teaching a girl to play Black Ops 2. Continue reading “2 Asian Dudes School a Girl in ‘Black Ops 2′” »

Along with being one of the year’s most anticipated titles, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has also been receiving some criticism about, what some consider, to be an aging engine. Treyarch is using a modded seven-year old IW engine and is defending it’s choice to do so.

In a recent interview with OXM (via IGN) David Vondehaar, the game design director on Black Ops 2, explained why Treyarch used this engine as well as his confusion over criticism considering the game’s performance and fidelity.

This morning the official UK Call of Duty: Black Ops II website confirmed the new title’s release date and laid out some further details on the highly anticipated shooter. The site described the new COD game as a shooter being set in a futuristic Cold War battle of sorts. COD Black Ops II will be released on November 13, 2012 and is now available to pre-order on the UK site with many more pre-order locations to be popping up over the next few days.

A new trailer is present but only teased, without allowing the user to actually view it just yet. The trailer link leads to a “dead” thumbnail which appears to be a placeholder for the upcoming trailer itself. One such thumbnail has the words “Los Angeles” written across an image of a helicopter racing above a freeway with high rise buildings burning in the distance. Last week rumours of a May 2012 reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 hit the internet when a retail promotional poster for the game surfaced. It has now been officially announced that we will be seeing the next iteration in the highly anticipated Activision shooter revealed during the NBA playoffs in early May.

At this time it is still unclear as to whether or not this new title will be in the Black Ops series or not. With last week’s rumoured poster and with the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise so widely speculated to be a sequel to the Treyarch developed Black Ops, that would seem most likely to be the case.

During an investors call yesterday (via The Guardian), Activision Publishing’s CEO Eric Hirshberg talked about how the next Call of Duty game “will bring meaningful innovation to the series.”
