Are you a long-time StarCraft fan who hungers for more than your usual RTS fix? Have you spent the last eight years gazing longingly towards Blizzard’s Warcraftian pastures? Luckily, the team at Upheaval Arts, an assembly of fans with a broad and impressive set of skills, are doing what many have asked of Blizzard since the release of 2004′s World of Warcraft: turning StarCraft into an MMO… sort of.

Upheaval’s StarCraft Universe is a fan-made mod that will be officially published through Blizzard’s Battle.net service, providing SC players with a raiding experience similar to that of WoW, pitting groups of players against powerful enemies for a shot at loot and glory.  Continue reading “Fan-made StarCraft Universe ‘MORPG’ Goes Where Blizzard Won’t” »

Screen Shot 2013-01-22 at 3.08.47 PMBlizzard has been fairly quiet about its MOBA Blizzard All-Stars for the last little while. The game was first revealed at BlizzCon 2010 and since then has remained with a “Coming Soonish” release date. Blizzard All-Stars is said to bring to together many of the developer’s most popular franchises into one world.

Since BlizzCon 2010, Blizzard has only briefly mentioned the title in interviews and financial calls. Eurogamer recently spoke with StarCraft 2 production director Chris Sigaty who said that the team is still “actively working” on the project.

Screen Shot 2013-01-14 at 3.19.37 PMBlizzard is bringing PvP dueling along with a host of other tweaks to Diablo 3 in it’s next major patch. Although it still sounds like a full player vs player mode is a ways out, you will be able to talk to an in-game NPC to enter into the PvP dueling brawler mode when patch 1.0.7 goes live (via IGN).

Head over to the inn in New Tristam and talk to an NPC called Nek. Players will then be allowed to enter the PvP area called Scorched Chapel. Inside the Scorched Chapel players will be able to go head to head with another player as well as enter into free-for-all brawls with three or four other players. Blizzard Entertainment is expanding the beta for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm. Those of you that preordered the title before December 18 will be eligible to get into the beta to try the game out before its scheduled release next year (via Gamespot).

StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm continues the story from Wings of Liberty. This time the main campaign will be focused around the Zerg. Kerrigan is tasked with re gaining control of the swarm and exacting her revenge on Arcturus Mengsk. Heart of the Swarm is the second installment in the StarCraft 2 three part series. Several different developers and publishers have been attempting to crack down on cheaters as of late. Diablo 3 is seeing its fair share of bot accounts and cheating programs being put into use and now a post on the official battle.net forums has outlined Blizzard’s plans to issue account bans on players caught “using botting programs.” (via GT)

Even though Blizzard has announced it plans just recently to take action against the cheaters, many have speculated for a while now that the top ranked players didn’t get there fairly.

Many have been wondering whether or not Blizzard would bring Diablo III to consoles some day. The company has been mildly teasing us with the idea for nearly a year now.

We know that the action-RPG dungeon crawler is currently running and playable on consoles internally at Blizzard, and now Polygon has had a chance to catch up with the developer’s chief creative officer, Rob Pardo, to find out more about the situation.

Pardo, who was recently promoted to CCO, said that even though the company isn’t quite ready to talk about console plans for Diablo III just yet, Blizzard does have console builds up and running and that they are looking really good.

According to a number of posts on Battle.net (via The Verge) users have figured out a new in-game exploit that both deals damage and revives the health of the Barbarian class.

The glitch will cause the character class to continually regenerate health which comes just one day after players discovered another exploit for the Wizard class.

Players can invoke the Barbarian exploit quite simply by performing a Furious Charge with a dreadnaught rune at a certain point in Act III. Performing the Furious Charge just prior to the cutscene that occurs right before battling Cydaea in the Arreat Crater will cause the game to think that all following moves towards enemies is a Furious Charge, which both deals damage and regenerates your character’s health. We know what you’re thinking…

“But there’s already been a World of Warcraft movie!”

If you aren’t thinking that than you need to check out /afk, a short film that is arguably better than what Sam Raimi and co. would have thrown our way.

How fitting that on the same day that we debut a new I Play WoW music video, this news hits? It’s no secret we’re skeptical whenever we hear a video game is getting adapted to the big screen, almost certainly because it’s marketable but not always because it has a strong foundation for a good film. World of Warcraft would seem to fit snugly into that stigma. Continue reading “DAILY CINEMA: Sam Raimi Out As Director World of Warcraft Movie” »

Blizzard announced today that all players that purchase Diablo III through Battle.net or the Blizzard online store will be subject to a 72 hour waiting period before the game is entirely playable.

According to The Verge, players will be limited to the Started Edition for the duration of the 72 hour (sometimes less) waiting period.

This new policy Blizzard has implemented as part of the recently released 1.0.3 patch puts newly bought copies on the 3 day waiting list. Throughout that time players can play the Starter Edition, which only includes the title’s first act as well placing a strict level 13 cap for all characters and followers. Some of the other limitations include only being able to play with other starte edition players as well having no access to the Diablo Auction House with gold or real money Continue reading “Blizzard Enforces 72 Hour Wait Time After Buying Diablo III” »

Developers behind the ever popular Starcraft II say there is hope to see a Starcraft game on consoles yet, adding that Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U could be an excellent fit.

Although Blizzard long since focused on PC games, it is in no way a stranger to console titles. The studio has previously confirmed some kind of console version for Diablo III. In the past we have already seen popular Blizzard titles like Starcraft and Diablo make their way onto the N64 and the Playstation respectively. Some 10 years ago Blizzard also announced a console title that has been infamously delayed, Starcraft: Ghost which was to be a stealth-action hybrid. The new Retina Macbook Pros feature a 2800 x 1800 resolution display and below is a screenshot of the game running in full Retina resolution courtesy of AnandTech (via 9to5Mac).

In its analysis of the new notebook’s display, Anandtech was able to get Diablo III up and running at full 2880 x 1800 Retina resolution, but noted most apps (apart from a few that have been already updated for the displays) will not take full advantage of the display. Blizzard is showcasing a brand new class this week for Diablo 3. On the lead up to the release of the game, Blizzard has been incrementally releasing trailers for each of the game’s classes. Along with a brand new trailer (below), the Wizard class has a full overview as well as a short story to detail its lineage and background in the Diablo world.

With an incredible display of magic we see the female wizard take on hordes of demons in the new class trailer. The Wizard class is described as “renegade spellcasters who use their bodies as vessels for arcane energy, forsaking the more careful path favored by other magic users.” The Wizard class will allow players the control over “all manner of forces to disintegrate, burn, and freeze their foes,” adding that they can control time and space as well as “teleport, create powerful illusions, and deflect oncoming attacks.”
