Booth Babe CES 2012You may not be surprised to see “booth babes” in this BBC report from the show floor at CES 2012. However, the report doesn’t just show off the women, but instead the BBC’s Matt Danzico went to CES to find out how females working in the tech industry feel about booth babes.

The report starts out interviewing various female technology writers including Molly McHugh of Digital Trends who says “it’s sending this message of what my sex is here to do… I’d rather be learning about the products”. McHugh says the booth babes’ presence at the shows is “uncomfortable” but in her opinion not degrading. Continue reading “How Should You Really Feel About Booth Babes?” »

The Razer Project Fiona is generating some unprecedented hype for a gaming console. Much of that is due to it not being a traditional gaming console — it’s a tablet.

But it isn’t so much about the hype as it is the hi-res video we have of someone actually playing the game on ultra-high settings. Quite simply put, it looks unlike anything we’ve ever seen before (dare we say at first glance a bit awkward).

Its pros, according to several CES attendees, outweigh the cons — largely because of the sidebar controllers, eliminating the need for a touchscreen with tablet gaming Continue reading “Is The Razer Fiona Project the Next Big Thing in the Console World?” »

bodymetricsBodymetrics– experts in 3D body scanning technology– are showing off their body-mapping applications at CES 2012 capable of allowing users to “virtually try on garments from partner retailers to determine whether a garment fits and flatters their body”.

The technology utilizes PrimeSense 3D sensors similar to Kinect that allow it to map “every contour and curve” of your exact body shape, which until recently required costly body-scanners. The company plans on bringing these types of augmented reality applications for trying on clothing to people’s homes and small businesses through Smart TVs in the near future. 3d tv without glassesWith CES 2012 set to kick off next week on January 10, the big talk of this year’s show is smart TVs, mostly due to Apple’s expected entrance into the HDTV market. Due to this, much of the media is picking up the story that 3D won’t be as big of a focus at the show as it was last year.

According to CNET, at least one TV vendor plans to grab some attention with its latest 3D technology– Toshiba is introducing a glasses-free 3D TV and plan to be first to the U.S. market in the first quarter of 2012. Sensics isn’t the first company to market a pair of so called smart goggles. However, while most other concepts act simply as a display for another machine (like a smartphone), these Android-powered 3D Smart Goggles work completely independently of your phone.

The goggles concept shown off in the video below and image above is known simply as the Sensics SmartGoggles, codenamed “Natalia”. AndroidCommunity correctly points out that it is really more a helmet, then goggles. Nonetheless, Sensics is promising full 3D capability, a 360 degree field of view, and an overall experience that caters to gamers.

As you can see in the video, it appears that some type of motion control/ gestures will Continue reading “Sensics SmartGoogles Bring 3D, 360 Degree Gaming to Android, PCs” »
