Worldwide environmental protection organization Greenpeace has long conveyed its messages through a series of shots of disintegrating environments, endangered species, and excessive pollution.

For one of their more recent campaigns, however, they’ve decided to embrace anime as a medium.  “Detox” marks the first effort by the organization to stop the spread of toxins and pollution via clothing brands, and one of several companies who have recently taken to using Japanimation to spread their word. NYPD Testing Remote Gun Detection Technology Using Terahertz Waves

According to a statement this week from the New York City Police Foundation, it is currently developing and testing new technology designed to detect secured weapons from a distance in conjunction with the Defense Department.

A report from the The New York Times said the technology works as a “reverse infrared mapping tool by reading the energy people emit and pinpointing where that flow is blocked by some object, like a gun”. Physics professor John Federici who talked to Huffington Post said the technology is known as terahertz imaging detection. Bodymetrics– experts in 3D body scanning technology– are showing off their body-mapping applications at CES 2012 capable of allowing users to “virtually try on garments from partner retailers to determine whether a garment fits and flatters their body”.

The technology utilizes PrimeSense 3D sensors similar to Kinect that allow it to map “every contour and curve” of your exact body shape, which until recently required costly body-scanners. The company plans on bringing these types of augmented reality applications for trying on clothing to people’s homes and small businesses through Smart TVs in the near future.
