Another prototype Playstation 4 controller has surfaced online today. Today’s image looks very much like the one Destructoid posted recently. Today’s image originates from a user on the GameTrailers forum.
We can clearly see some kind of touch pad with goes right along with many of the rumors we have previously reported on. Polygon as well as other media outlets have had trusted independent sources confirm to them that these are indeed actual PS4 prototype controllers from the dev kit.

The same thing you use to control your running back in Madden or Nathan Drake in Uncharted is now being modified to shoot armored rounds from Syrian Rebel tanks.
A PS3 controller can be seen in the video below adjusting and aiming the machine gun attached to the “Sham II” an armored car that can allegedly survive 23 mm cannon fire. The video shows a driver controlling the armored car using flat panel monitors inside the car, with another individual using The PS3 controller to swivel the gun toward enemies and taking aim based on the camera view.
There are no reports as to what inspired the gunner to use a PS3 controller, but critics are already raising concerns that a peripheral video game accessory is being used to cause havoc on an ACTUAL battlefield. Pop Artist Charles Lushear has graced us with another wonderful piece of art. His NES Controller coffee table not only functions as a piece of art or furniture it also works perfectly fine as an actual game controller.
With a retractable cable that comes from beneath and a removable glass top, the table becomes a fully functioning NES controller…only its much bigger and much more expensive.
The table is made from “maple, mahogany and walnut with dovetail joinery and mid century modern legs.” Its dimensions: 42″ length x 18.25″ width x 18″ height. Continue reading “Functioning NES Controller Coffee Table Is Worth Every Penny” »

While its not clear we’ll ever get our hands on concepts currently in Apple’s labs, a review of the new iPad from Anandtech has leaked details about a physical iPad controller Apple has in the works. At the same time we get a look at the brand new chrome line of Xbox 360 controllers officially announced by Microsoft today.
This isn’t the first time info has surfaced regarding a remote/controller concept from Apple. A patent that surfaced in April 2010 showed Apple was working on gaming accessories. The images in the patent showed a Nintendo DS-like design with a D-Pad, two game buttons and a touchscreen in the middle.
The report from Anandtech claimed Apple has an internal project dedicated to bringing a physical controller to market, but also noted it was uncertain whether the device would ever become available. We know there is certainly a market for physical controllers compatible with iOS devices and with confirmation Apple is working on it, it’s entirely possible we’ll see an Apple branded gaming controller in the near future.
At the same time of rumors of a controller for iOS devices, Microsoft has confirmed today the availability of its chrome series of Xbox 360 controllers.
Available starting mid-May depending on your location, the controllers will come in red, blue, and chrome variants and sell for $55 through xbox.com/accessories and local retailers. Head past the break for images of the three controllers:

If you weren’t already excited enough about the upcoming release of Angry Birds Space (that Rovio recently introduced with a trailer featuring NASA footage), you’ll definitely get in the mood when you see this DIY mod that turns a slingshot into a USB controller for the game.
Behind the creation is Simon Ford, director of tools at ARM’s mbed, a company specializing in rapid prototyping for microcontrollers. According to a post where the video was first published on the mbed website (via The Verge), the project was an attempt to make Angry Birds into a real sport and at the same time a demo of how easy it is to build DIY USB controllers.
When it comes to the slingshot itself Continue reading “Slingshot USB Controller Mod For Angry Birds” »

You’re most likely familiar with the iCade arcade cabinet for iPad. We even told you about new models (including a mobile iPhone version) that were introduced at CES. Today ThinkGeek has given us a sneak peek at the latest iCADE peripheral– a classic Nintendo-style controller for iPhone and iPad (and Android) decked out in 8-bit motifs and branded the “8-bitty”.
The controller sports 8 buttons: 4 face buttons, two shoulder buttons, and select and start (and the D-Pad, of course). It pairs wirelessly over Bluetooth (two AAA batteries required) and supports all iCADE compatible games including Pac Man, Super Mega Worm, and the Atari Classics collection (complete list here). The good news is devs (even Android) can easily add support to their apps, so the list keeps Continue reading “iCADE 8-Bitty Controller For iPhone And iPad, Coming Soon For $25” »

Following the NES controller concept for iPhone that we showed you last week, a new mod discovered by blogger Paul Rickards allows you to use an actual NES controller with your iPad over USB.
In a post over at biosrhythm, Rickards explains that the discovery was the result of an accident while using the C64 homebrew keyboard he modded to work with his iPad using Apple’s Camera Connection Kit. Rickards explains the process (via TouchArcade): Continue reading “Mod Brings NES Controller Support To iCade-Supported iPad Games” »

This image of a Nintendo controller accessory for iPhone is unfortunately still only a concept. However, with a number of similar gadgets being released and Apple continuing to dominate in mobile gaming, Nintendo might want to consider it.
U.K.-based designer Fabio Basile created the concept that would attach to each side of your iPhone with a D-pad connecting via the 3.5mm headphone jack, and the A and B buttons via the 30-pin dock connector. The designer has flirted with the idea of creating a Kickstarter project to make it become a reality, but it’s unclear whether we’ll actually get the chance to buy this thing. To fully embrace the spirit of CES this week, modder Ben Heck– who is mostly known for his Xbox 360 laptop, Atari, and Nintendo mods– has decided to create one of his small form factor controller mods for the iPhone.
To accomplish the task Ben took the popular iCade arcade cabinet accessory for iPad and used its circuitry to create a handheld version that cradles the iPhone and resembles a PSP. Here’s how he did it:
To successfully implement video gaming capabilities onto the smaller-footed iPhone, Ben first deconstructs an iCade®system that enables gaming on an Apple iPad® to integrate a scaled-down version of the circuitry. Then, by connecting a PodBreakout board to a simulated battery, Ben borrows voltage from the iPad to enable the Bluetooth required to power the iPhone for mobile gaming purposes.
Ben will be showing off the mod with GT.TV host Geoff Keighley on Spike at CES on Tuesday, Jan 10 at 2:15 pm PST. Continue reading “iPhone Gets Unofficial iCade Handheld Mod as Official Mobile Version Gets Unveiled” »

Up until now only Android users have had the pleasure of using the Gametel bluetooth controller from accessory maker Fructel. The device clips onto your smartphone and provides a classic D-pad/joystick hybrid on the left, “Select” and “Start” in the middle”, four game buttons on the right, and two shoulder buttons that sit behind the smartphone.
Fructel recently announced (via GSMArena) a couple days early that an iOS version of Gametel will indeed be launching at CES.

There isn’t a shortage of gaming accessories on the market for Xbox and PS3, but the U.S. Army is intent on cashing in on the success of games like Modern Warfare with a selection of official Army-branded gaming accessories.
The product page for the products describe them as for “modern gaming warfare”, which I guess is as close as you can get to marketing something as “Modern Warfare” without Activision suing you. Continue reading “U.S. Army Branded Xbox and PS3 Accessories Coming Soon” »

Credit Mark Bongo of Major League Mods — a company that specializes in designing customized game consoles — for coming up with this.
Modeled after the yellow Bumblebee Camaro from Bay’s Transformers, it’s pretty much a replica of the big screen version, minus, y’know, being able to get inside and everything…though apparently you can still drive it.
Courtesy of CinemaBlend, there’s some neat pics of the console, which also comes Continue reading “XBox 360 Transformer May Be the Closest To Bumblebee You’ll Get” »

Most us have resorted to any number of emulators running on Android and (usually jailbroken) iPhones to get our retro Nintendo fix on the go.
For those with massive collections of original SNES cartridges, Hyperkin’s handheld console is finally ready for primetime, allowing you to play classic SNES titles on a faithful Nintendo-like controller equipped with a 3.5-inch display.
Supporting most original 16-bit SNES and Super Famicom cartridges, its slightly larger and chunkier than a PSP ( its 8.5 x 4 x 1.5 inches), allowing you to pop a cartridge right in the top. It also doubles as a home console, if your SNES console happens to die, by letting you plug in two full-size SNES controllers and use video out to hook up to your TV.
