California State Senator Leland Yee is no stranger to getting himself in front of the spotlight, be it for vociferously coming down on violent video games or for his wife’s tendency to crash their government funded automobile.
Yee’s latest act is to spearhead efforts regulating 3D printers, particularly the ability to “print” plastic guns.
“We must be proactive in seeking solutions to this new threat rather than wait for the inevitable tragedies this will make possible,” Yee said in a press release.
What Yee is referring to is the viral video of a Texas man successfully firing a plastic gun he manufactured using a 3D printer. The uploader, Cody Wilson, then put the design/manual of how to create the gun on the web for 100,000 of his closest friends to download (until the Feds took it down). In a battle between Aquaman and Green Lantern, who would win? The mighty gilled one who rides sea horses? Or with Superman vs. Green Arrow: How the hell is it even a contest? And yet somehow it is (we promise we wouldn’t waste your time): in the quarter finals of the Injustice Battle Arena – a no-holds-barred superhero debate between Jace and Stan Lee — two of Earth’s mightiest warriors have once again pulled out all the stops in a showdown over which superpower should dominate. It was almost a year ago that epic Comic Book LEGEND Stan Lee and The Jace Hall Show’s very own host, teamed up to find out who the greatest comic book fans of all-time were in the online series Fan Wars. Fan Wars put fans head to head to debate which one of their comic heroes were greater, but today, Stan Lee and Jace Hall get their chance to debate…DC characters? (insert Stan Lee *facepalm* here).
Who would win in a battle? Batman vs. Wonder Woman? The Flash vs. The Joker? Continue reading “Jace Hall and Stan Lee Debate in Epic Standoff: Who is Greater – Batman or Wonder Woman? Flash or The Joker” »

A Missouri State Representative named Diane Franklin has asserted that a 1% sales tax should be placed on “Violent Video Games.”
Which games are violent? According to Franklin’s proposal, video games rated “teen,” “mature” and “adult-only” would be targeted – which apparently would mean games like Need For Speed (Teen), Hawx (Teen), and Leisure Suit Larry (Mature) are now violent…
“History shows there is a mental health component to these shootings,” Franklin said, referring to the recent Connecticut and Colorado tragedies, thus a 1% sales tax would conecivably pay for mental health services and law enforcement measures. …not that we’d expect them to. It’s not the easiest subject to tackle. This is not only because censorship is a fairly sensitive, more general issue, but also because there’s more pressing matters both candidates feel are worth focusing on.
Yet we’re not hearing very much about the subject, and particularly how it will affect not only games and gaming, but visual media in general. And if you think one candidate isn’t capable of a more extreme attack on your gaming content, think again.

The weeks of video game history are just flying by. Here’s a look at the most recent one.
Presidential Debate Hits XBox Live
The first presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney aired on XBox Live Wednesday night, complete with interactive polling questions that were made available during the broadcast.
This broadcast was not only historic for seeing XBox Live as a broadcaster of such a mainstream event, but also for marking the first time Medicare was an important topic to gamers not playing the Nintendo Wii.
Achievement Unlocked – 10G: Yes, I said old people played the Wii. They did. Continue reading “This Week in Gaming: Bieber and FIFA score, Donkey Kong goes gold and Cliffy B ‘grows up’” »

It’s safe to say times have changed since the days of campy sitcoms and TV dinners, where nuclear families sat together at the dinner table or living room and everything was hunky-dory.
Today things are much different, society has evolved and re-defined what it means to “be a family” in 2012, some reflecting cultural transitions into gay marriage, being a single parent, having an adopted father, etc. Look no further than the new “comedy” from NBC “The New Normal” which features two gay men trying to raise a surrogate child (we’re a long way from Leave It To Beaver…pun not intended).
So perhaps it’s not so shocking that Continue reading “New Bill Would Allow Children To Have More Than Two Parents” »

No way around it — abortion’s one of those topics which elicits some insanely heated debate.
Everyone has an opinion on it, and from those Oxygen/Lifetime movies, to the big screen, lots of people have their agenda and love to shove it in the viewer’s face.
Except for Joss Whedon, apparently, who insists that his latest issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is neither pro-abortion/anti-abortion/anything in between Continue reading “Joss Whedon Defends ‘Buffy’ Abortion Comic” »
