One of the most revered and respected founders of anime, Noboru Ishiguro, passed away on Tuesday. Ishiguro was regarded more as a director than a concept designer — though when you saw mechas fly/run/shoot cannons back in the day, chances are that he was behind it.

He directed some of the most beloved anime titles in history — including Super Dimension Fortress Macross (one of several Robotech spin-offs/versions/interpretations), and Space Battleship Yamato, along with one of the earliest color versions of the anime Astro Boy.
