It was almost a year ago that epic Comic Book LEGEND Stan Lee and The Jace Hall Show’s very own host, teamed up to find out who the greatest comic book fans of all-time were in the online series Fan Wars. Fan Wars put fans head to head to debate which one of their comic heroes were greater, but today, Stan Lee and Jace Hall get their chance to debate…DC characters? (insert Stan Lee *facepalm* here).
Who would win in a battle? Batman vs. Wonder Woman? The Flash vs. The Joker? Continue reading “Jace Hall and Stan Lee Debate in Epic Standoff: Who is Greater – Batman or Wonder Woman? Flash or The Joker” »

Known as a ‘multi-fandom festival’,ConNooga is geared towards fanboys and girls of lots of different geeky things — particularly Sci-Fi/Fantasy shows and movies — as well as other geek-oriented pop culture items.
Unlike a lot of other cons, the organizers behind Chattanooga Tennessee’s ConNooga are starting to gear the festival more towards kids (each year, con organizers are seeing more young ones dressed up as Boba Fett, the good witch from The Wizard of Oz, and Harry Potter).
Now, using crowd-funding site indiegogo, the organizers of the event hope to raise money for ConNooga Kidz, a kids (13-and-under)-oriented track for their convention. Continue reading “ConNooga: Help Kids Get Their Own Geek Convention!” »

It’s no secret that today’s world is ruled by nerds and geeks, but is there still a negative stigma against nerds today in the mainstream?
Jace Hall guests stars on GeekdDown TV to debate the issue. What connection do iPhones have a retroactive nerd. Are nerds in the mainstream a bad thing?

It’s 2011. We’re able to conceive and execute functional robotic limbs for the price of a small car. Our cars can be hacked by Android-wielding security experts. And the internet has changed the way we perceive the value of content and goods.
So it’s time to ask a question belonging to a new age, and a new future for humanity. Is internet access an undeniable, fundamental human right? Continue reading “#Thoughtsongaming: Is Internet Access a Human Right?” »

The Washington Post today decided to briefly catch up with the geek world and check in with Otacon over on the east coast–and, naturally decided to focus on the negative aspects of it. It’s filled with the usual “geeks are freaks” vibe, but there’s some good news between the lines in all this.
The story deals with with the conviction of a one Michael Halper of having underaged sex with a thirteen year old. I think we can all agree that’s PRETTY DISGUSTING, but the good news is the Cons are listening, and are making plans to make sure events like this never happen again. Though Lulzsec may have vanished in the background, Anonymous has taken up the flag of operation #Anonsec—but that’s chump change compared to the storm that’s been rumbling in Great Britain in the last few days. If you thought Lulzsec’s shenanigans were pretty rough, they’ve got nothing on Rupert Murdoch’s British Newspaper News of the World, which was forced to shut down over a huge scandal its propagated.
That scandal? Hacking into people’s cell phones, and listening to and stealing their voice mails.
More on that outrage in a moment–first, Anonymous. The faceless, headless, V-For-Vendetta worshipping hackers targeted Booz Allen Hamilton today, a Military contractor that was targeted for its involvement in a recent surveillance minor-scandal. Anonymous managed to make off with 90,000 military-related email accounts and passwords–not just of Booz Allen employees, but military employees staffed at US CENTCOM and SOCOM, as well as other military departments. The long and the short of it Continue reading “Hacking News Roundup! Not Entirely What You Expect…” »

Stand and salute Ladies and Gentlemen. Feast your eyes upon Lego Middle Earth—led by ubergeek Chris Phipson, these fine folks built the iconic moments from Tolkein’s three books (Rendered in the style seen in the Peter Jackson movies), all the way from Hobbiton right up to the eye of Sauron.

Words defy me. The Mines of Moria built to scale? Isengard with the tower of Orthanc? I literally shouted “holy shit!” When I saw Minas Tirith. It’s even got an army of 2,000 Lego figures lined up and ready for the siege.
So that’s it—the entire, epic saga of Lord of the Rings reduced to millions of brick pieces, and realized by a dedicated squad of geeks. Well done sirs (and ladies) well done.

Go salute these fine folks’ effort at their website!

Want to win $10,000 and a whole host of gadgets? Then check out the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago’s “Month at the Museum” challenge. The challenge is to live in the Chicago museum from October 19th to November 17th 2011—an entire month—participating in the museum’s activities and blogging about the experience, all the while learning more about science.
Yeah, sure that’s probably going to mean a month of not going on WoW raids and probably no access to an Xbox, but you’ll get to dive right in to the museum’s awesome exhibits, tell all your friends you lived in a Museum for a month….and, since that may not sell you on it, probably help light something on fire. What’s the difference between being “popular” and being a “geek?”
In school, usually the popular kids are the ones who everybody knows–the jocks, Prom kings, party animals, etc. The Geeks were the ones that got/get better grades, who spent more time in books than at football games. Usually, geeks are talked down to because they’re different, they don’t choose to do many of the same activities as the popular kids (and for good reason).
