It’s time for everyone’s favorite snarky, sarcastic, tounge-in-cheek-hey-that’s-not-my-cheek look at the latest headlines in the world of video games. Ignore those other articles out there that are claiming the new Xbox will include a built-in George Foreman Grill and SlapChop and read something like this one, which is purposely not taking things seriously… except for maybe one of these.

Fink, aka Andrew Fink, is a Google employee who works at the company’s New York City office. According to Geek.com, Google’s ‘official’ company policy is that their employees only have to work 80% of the time they’re there.
The other 20%, apparently, can be spent doing whatever you want (wonder if they have an open bar like Electronic Arts, hahaha). In the case of Fink, though, some of that 20% was spent making this particular video. Continue reading “Rappa Please: Google Employee Rhymes About How Awesome Google Is (Video)” »

The recently-released video-commercial for Google Glass seems pretty glib: Plucky folky music plays to a montage of trapeze artists sending emails, hot air balloonists recording video, biplane pilots connecting to Google Hangouts, and artists sharing their ice sculptures online, all using Glass, and all with an endless supply of verve. It’s a merry-go-round montage of cute puppies, hot air balloon rides, being in cirque du soleil, life as a wealthy porn star doing 5 girls at once– never mind, that’s just us projecting again…
Critics, meanwhile, who have actually tried the glasses, haven’t been exactly forthcoming — and when they are, it sounds like a mixed bag. Continue reading “More Details and Video on Google Glass Emerge; Haters Defiant” »

Jennifer Zhang wanted to write a film that blended American Slasher with Asian horror films “Ringu” and “Ju-On.” With the help of Director Pearry Teo and a crew of Google investors, that vision came to fruition with ”Dead Inside”, a film that has already picked up Best Directing, Cinematography and Best Narrative awards and recently scored distribution in the UK.
The film features Sarah, a teen with a history of mental illness, who has a premonition of her friends’ impending deaths one night at a sleepover. As her houseguests begin to turn murderously against each other, Sarah must determine whether her visions represent the preventable or the inevitable…or something much, much worse.
Says Jennifer, the film wouldn’t have happened if she didn’t stick to her guns and make Street Fighter High, one of her first original “fan films”: Continue reading “Google Engineers Tell Us How They Made a Horror Movie” »

Can Google predict video game sales? You mean…can the site that possesses every bit of information on nearly every user from California to Kazakhstan predict whether a video game is going to be successful?
Put it that way and it certainly seems plausible, but new research from google indicates just HOW powerful their search engine results are in determining video games sales — particularly which games will do well.
The recent report “Understanding The Modern Gamer” (published via Google) analyzed “hundreds of millions” of searches related to the top 20 best-selling video games Continue reading “Google: Now Reading Your Thoughts And Predicting Video Game Sales With 84% Accuracy” »

Business Insider recently observed that Android is “Suddenly In A Lot Of Trouble.” The reasons are numerous but it all boils down to a few things: shoddy attention to detail, poor cross platform support for apps (making development difficult) and an overall inconsistant user experience across the board.
Everyone knows that games are consistently the #1 selling category on mobile devices…upwards of 60-70% of all “app store sales” happen to be games – so it is logical that if you want your platform to skyrocket in popularity, you want to get games right.
Unfortunately…the reality is that games just don’t work good on Android. Continue reading “How Google Has Kicked Android Gaming Directly In The Balls” »

The last time we told you about Google terminator-style glasses a built-in HUD and specs similar to a smartphone Google had not yet confirmed the project. Today out of nowhere previous reports from 9to5Google have been proven accurate with Google introducing the augmented reality glasses concept through a concept video and series of images.

22 year-old George Hotz, aka Geohot, is no stranger to trouble with the law — the former Google worker is most famous for having hacked the PS3 and jailbroken the 2008 iPhone. Apparently Mark Zuckerberg and co. saw something promising in the lad and hired him to work at Facebook (a company he’s reportedly since quit working for). According to ZDNet Hotz was on his way to the SXSW Festival when a a K-9 unit sniffed out the weed in his glove compartment, leading to cops busting him for possession.
He was booked on felony charges and posted the $1500 bail — all this despite the fact that Abovethelaw.com reported that he does have a medical license. On his person: 1/4 oz and 1/8 oz worth of edible weed chocolates, the latter of which was valued at $800 according to police (though Hotz claimed he had only paid $15 for them.) To paraphrase a particular Seinfeld episode, it usually helps to know when not to take it out. At the end of a first date, w/o warning, in the car… during dinner, over the lobster bisque. Common-sense places. And apparently everywhere else, as a particular Frenchman proved this week, when, after being ‘caught’ (and published) on Google Street View peeing in his front yard, decided to sue for 10,000 euros. And since he’s “the laughing stock of his entire neighborhood,”could they please take the f*cking photo down as well?
According to Mashable, Europeans have taken more of a stand on privacy issues and publication of private data with social networking platforms like Facebook and Continue reading “Man Sues Google Street View – For Catching Him Peeing” »
