Instead of searching or a cure for cancer, one brave scientist apparently decided to buck all trends and create what pretty much all prepubescents, teens and pretty much every living human being really wants.

Mattel Making 1:1 Replica of ‘Back To The Future’ Hoverboard…If You Can Afford It

If you got excited when Nike introduced 1500 replica pairs of the shoes Marty McFly wore in Back To The Future II, you’ll be really excited about Mattel’s plans to release a 1:1 replica of the hoverboard McFly used in the Back To The Future sequels.

Mattel made the announcement (via CNET) at the New York Toy Fair where they revealed the item will be ready to ship for Christmas 2012, but Mattel warns that’s only if it sees strong preorders beginning in March since the hoverboard is such a “high-cost item”. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but if demand isn’t you won’t be charged for your preorder.
