CES 2013 has revealed a weapon that looks like it’s something straight out of the Terminator, except this gun actually has a price tag (and probably a waiting period of at least three days).
The Austin based startup, TrackingPoint, believes they have developed a ”Precision Guided Firearms” that allows you to capture the perfect shot. Together the gun is made of a modified trigger mechanism with variable weighting, and a computerized digital tracking scope. It also has hand-loaded match grade rounds, which are purchased directly from the manufacturer. Continue reading “Meet The $17,000 Linux Powered Rifle, Complete With Auto-aim” »

If anyone out there remembers playing Goldeneye 64, you probably remember that all you really wanted to do was upgrade your respective weapons and continue shooting the sh*t out of one another. You also might remember what a pain in the ass some of those random characters in the game are.
In this real- life version of the classic game, filmmakers AlaskyFX capture what was so f*cking frustrating about those characters, especially the very hot and very dumb Bond girl Natalya. Continue reading “Real-Life Goldeneye 64 Captures Everything You Hated Most About the Game” »

Ever heard the phrase “Videogames are invading our living rooms”? Well, there is a new show on YouTube that aims to do just that…
Co-Op Life is exactly what the title suggests: Two roommates bring the meaning of cooperative play to another level. Each episode lets a game like Bioshock, CoD or Braid invade the apartment of the two gamers Jumanji-style…and once a ‘Big Daddy’ shows up in your living room, stains on the carpet are the least of your concerns! “You do anything long enough to escape the habit of living until the the escape becomes the habit.”
With those somewhat timeless words by comic book artist David Ryan, film student Anthony Rosner plunges us into the game that stole 7 years of his life. Yes — turns out that despite having 9000 achievement points, 16 dragons, tons of kills and pets, ad nauseum, a life of World of Warcraft and little else ended up having a bit of a detrimental effect. If you’ve never played Skyrim or are not familiar with the game whatsoever (why did you click on this post) the above video will most likely make ZERO sense to you (unless if you’ve played other Bethesda titles). For those of you pushing 300 hours on Skyrim, or are kind-of-sort-of tired of the arrow in the knee meme, bask in the cleverness that is Skyrim: 2012. Sure it may be missing some lag and also fails to bring up the obligatory sign in page where you originally enter your EA ID for seemingly no reason, but this re-creation by NoFrontier100 is one of the more realistic examples of video games IRL you’ll ever see. Even the most ardent and die-hard gamer has to give props to the video that blends elements of the game rather seamlessly. In a world where video games and movies IRL are becoming more popular than ever, we bring you this: Jedi, Ninjas, fight choreography, and if all that’s not enough, some pretty good VFX. In short, it’s what the Last Airbender was probably trying to be, but failed miserably.
According to the video-makers at Gas Attack: Continue reading “VIRAL VIDEO: Jedi vs. Ninjas Take Over Youtube” »

I counted five iOS games in this video, but that was admittedly after a thorough google search and texting my sister, who would have responded sooner if she wasn’t currently playing half of the games featured in the video.
Some of these games as you may well know have already made their way to console ports, helping to lead the surge for consoles quality games to make their way to social networks.
The Aussie group “Hey Geronimo” from down under, offers quite the tribute….good luck getting this song out of your head. Continue reading “Viral Video: What Your iPhone Games Look Like in Real Life” »

A lot of times video games are placed in a vacuum. If you believe movies, or what the “mainstream media” thinks of them, they’re just a distraction that occasionally produces some high-quality content that’s worth talking about every now and then. They’re like how movies used to be in the days before home video—you go in, you get entertained, you come out no different.
I don’t think that’s the case. Aside from a general argument that video games can affect our worldview, (Bioshock did more than just teach me how to mix electricity and water) I think they can affect how we go about our daily lives. How we prioritize, how we watch T.V. What recreational activities or sports we do. Video games are a powerful influence on our everyday lives.
For instance, let’s take basic organization. I spent two years playing World of Warcraft, and I still picture that quest log, or something like it, whenever I’m figuring out how to get stuff done. When I make lists, I’m not basing them off some crappy “this is how you get organized!” tip from a study book, I’m figuring out what’s rated as “too high level” or “too low level” for me to accomplish.
Or how about martial arts? I’ve literally watched some of the techniques Ezio and Altair pull off in the Assassin’s Creed games, turned around and incorporated them into my self-defense training at Taekwondo. Watching Jackie Chan never inspired me in that way.
But my favorite video games real life transition has to be game “Humans Versus Zombies.” And when I say game, I don’t mean video game. I mean “Bunch of college kids running around the quad” kind of game.
For the uneducated, this game is awesome. Continue reading “Video Games…In Real Life” »
