If there’s two things I never would have assumed would go together, it’s ‘manga’ and ‘employment.’ (Yet I’m doing this write-up here, so it goes to show ya). Robert Walters didn’t let that hold him back: he’s regarded by companies of all kinds as a leader in the industry of employment recruitment consultancies.
Walters has wasted no time in proving he’s ahead of the game, helping design a new app called the Manga Interview App, which utilizes an anime-styled approach to helping aspiring job-seekers perfect the interview process. Continue reading “Daily Anime: New Manga iPhone App Could Land You a Job” »

Maybe it just feels like we’ve been doing a lot of pervy anime posts lately (or maybe just one big one on child porn anime/manga) — so we’ve decided to focus on the opposite end of the spectrum, i.e., the healthy side.
Now we can add a new breed to the list of otaku subspecies — the weight-loss/fitness enthusiast kind. And thus those with a love for both getting in shape and anime will have a new iPhone app. Called Burn Your Fat With Me!!, it inspires users with a “moévation” program, aka ‘moé’ for short.
According to Kotaku, users are Continue reading “Daily Anime: Cute Anime Girls Will Help You Lose Weight” »

There’s a brand-new rumor circulating this week that Bruce Willis is planning to sue Apple over who owns the rights to his reportedly huge music collection, after he passes away. It’s a morbid situation to ponder, but does he have a point?
As Geekosystem points out, pretty astutely, iTunes’ terms and conditions are more than just a wee bit convoluted:
This license does not allow you to use the Licensed Application on any Apple Device that you do not own or control, and except as provided in the Usage Rules, you may not distribute or make the Licensed Application available over a network where it could be used by multiple devices at the same time.
You got all that? Continue reading “Daily Lawsuit: Is Bruce Willis Suing Apple Over His iTunes Library?” »

The exploration of the vast world of Skyrim has just been made a little more manageable thanks to the Skyrim Official World Interactive Map app for iOS. Bethesda has teamed up with Prima Games to release this free app available on iTunes now.
Skyrim Official World Interactive Map brings the 3200x zoomable world of Skyrim to your iPhone and iPad. Other apps of this sort, most notably Dragon Shout, are already available but lack the level of detail offered through Prima’s app. However, the app may not be quite stable yet on iPad 2, according to The Verge, they’re currently getting a ”Please wait while loading data” error. Another downside is the app is only currently available via the US App Store. Continue reading “Explore Skyrim With Official World Interactive Map for iPhone and iPad” »

With the untimely passing of Whitney Houston on February 11, and tributes to the pop icon at last nights 54th Grammy awards, the last thing we expected is Sony to raise the price of Houston’s albums in order to capitalize on the singer’s death.
Knowing that downloads of Houston’s music would skyrocket on news of her passing, The Guardian reports Sony Music increased the price of her 2007 Ultimate Collection from £3 to £7.99.
The change happened when Sony Music, which owns the rights to much of Houston’s back catalogue, increased the wholesale price of The Ultimate Collection. This automatically boosted the retail price of the popular album, although Apple is responsible setting the price paid by music fans. Following its most recent acquisition of Dixons’ and PC World’s John Browett as its new Retail SVP, Apple has poached an Xbox Live marketing exec from Europe to help promote the App Store. In case you were wondering how focused Apple is on further dominating the mobile gaming market in the months to come, its no coincidence they’ve decided to hire someone with 7 years of experience at Xbox…
With Apple rumored to be entering the living room with an HDTV possibly sometime this year, the hiring of Xbox’s Robin Burrowes shouldn’t be understated. Most recently Burrowes worked to market the latest Xbox dashboard updates in the EMEA. Continue reading “Apple Steals Xbox Live Exec To Work On Promoting App Store” »

A new iOS app released today by developer XVision is a remake of the 1981 classic “Donkey.Bas”, which was co-written by none other than Microsoft’s Bill Gates for IBM PCs running DOS.
The 99 cent app is available now for both iPad and iPhone and promises to be a faithful port with 8-bit graphics and sounds for a look and feel almost identical to the original game.
You’re cruising in your new supercar on a little-used, dead-straight rural road when suddenly a zombified donkey Continue reading “DOS Game Co-Created by Bill Gates Returns as “Donkey.BAS” iOS App” »

Non-profit organization Moment of Silence Inc. is offering an 8-second long silent audio track on iTunes in order to raise money for various pancreatic cancer organizations. The company hopes iTunes users will “pay homage to Steve Jobs while fighting pancreatic cancer” by purchasing the 99 cent track entitled simply, “Moment of Silence”.
Proceeds from sales of the silent audio file will go directly to one of three charities including: The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, and The Lustgarten Foundation. The song’s artwork is an image of Steve Jobs as seen in the video below and the 8 second length is to symbolize the eight years Jobs fought cancer. Sony’s subscription-based music streaming service, Music unlimited, is about to try and take on iTunes on its own turf.
The Wall Street Journal reports Sony has decided to launch an iOS app in early 2012:
Sony’s decision to offer the service, touted as the Japanese company’s answer to Apple’s iTunes, on iOS devices speaks to Apple’s presence in the all-important smartphone and tablet markets as well as Sony’s willingness to do whatever it takes to expand the reach of its content services.

We are constantly hearing about Angry Birds– whether it’s an Angry Birds birthday cake, Angry Birds themed parks, or milestone announcements.
It’s about time that the franchise’s next biggest character, the fat pigs (who are probably pretty angry themselves), get some love too. Cult of Mac points us to Misunderstood Pigs, a new iOS game that reverses the roles of Angry Birds’ main characters giving the pigs a chance to go on the offensive. Apple’s policies on accepting (only to quickly remove) most emulators from the App Store have been sketchy to say the least. Commodore 64 has slipped through the cracks and remains in the App Store, while the majority of others have already been given the axe by Apple. For whatever reason, it appears that they have now allowed iMAME.
There’s no doubt the free download, which comes with 9 pre-installed games, is definitely worth picking up. Among those titles– Circus, Crash, Fire One, Hard Hat, Robot Bowl, Side Track, Spectar, Star Fire, and Targ. Apple is once again doing their yearly ‘Rewind’ wrap up of the best of the best App Store and Mac App Store apps consisting of the top sellers and favorite apps and games across 21 categories. They’ve also made charts available for just about all of the other content on iTunes including music, TV shows, books, movies, and podcasts.
When it comes to games that top the charts, EA’s Dead Space was named iPad Game of the Year, and despite Angry Birds’ dominance in terms of sales, tower construction simulator Tiny Tower received the Game of the Year award on iPhone. OnLive has just dropped a press release announcing new mobile apps for Android, iPhone, and iPad that will effectively bring their “console-class” cloud gaming experience to over 500 million mobile devices in the UK and US.
You’re probably already familiar with OnLive’s game streaming service previously only available to Macs, PCs, or a dedicated OnLive console.
However, while most of the 200 games in their library will be playable on mobile devices via a wireless controller, 25 of those titles have also been ported with touchscreen controls. It isn’t just the smaller titles Continue reading “OnLive Brings Super Laggy Console Games to iPhone, iPad, and Android” »

The highly anticipated Infinity Blade II from Chair Entertainment, successor to the original Unreal Engine-powered iOS title, was officially slated for a December 1st release.
Today New Zealanders are getting a bit of an early Christmas present with the title already available in the country’s App Store a day before its official launch.
Originally shown off as a free roaming tech demo known as Epic Citadel, the first Infinity Blade title set a new standard for mobile gaming on iOS devices being the first unreal-engine powered game. This was despite the final game being an on-rails hack and slash with minor RPG elements. That game went on to be the fastest grossing iOS title ever taking in $1.6 million in just four days. Mojang’s long-awaited Pocket Edition of their build-anything sandbox Minecraft has finally landed on iOS with a universal app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Unfortunately, it might not live up to your expectations with stripped down gameplay and a price tag that might not satisfy your mobile Minecraft needs.
For those that were hoping the iOS version would be closer to a faithful port of the PC version in comparison to the Android port, you’re going to be disappointed. The app’s iTunes page provides a rather short list of features that mirrors the Android app’s listing– Randomized worlds, 36 types of blocks, local network multiplayer, and the ability to save multiplayer worlds. Unfortunately Continue reading “Minecraft: Pocket Edition now available on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch” »
