Picture 25Fink, aka Andrew Fink, is a Google employee who works at the company’s New York City office. According to Geek.com, Google’s ‘official’ company policy is that their employees only have to work 80% of the time they’re there.

The other 20%, apparently, can be spent doing whatever you want (wonder if they have an open bar like Electronic Arts, hahaha). In the case of Fink, though, some of that 20% was spent making this particular video. Continue reading “Rappa Please: Google Employee Rhymes About How Awesome Google Is (Video)” »

Code.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of computer science education. They believe that “every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn to code.”

In this day and age, nearly everything revolves around technology, but the relative stagnancy of the U.S. education system is holding us back. According to Code.org, 60% of all math and science related jobs are computer programming jobs, yet computer science students comprise a minuscule 2% of math and science students. While this could be attributed to a lack of interest or a variety of other issues, Code.org sites that nine out of ten schools do not offer programming courses and coding classes don’t even count towards high school graduation requirements in 41 out of the 50 United States.

With just about every politician urging Apple to bring jobs back home to the U.S. amid Apple’s supply chain abroad coming under scrutiny for poor working conditions, perhaps it was about time someone mentioned the “App Economy”.

According to a new study, apps for mobile devices have created approximately 466,000 jobs in the US since 2008.

The numbers come from a TechNet sponsored study, with a little help from South Mountain Economics, which noted America’s App Economy “had zero jobs just Continue reading “The ‘App Economy’ Has Created Over 466,000 Jobs In The US” »

jonthan ive knightedApple’s design chief behind the iconic designs of most of Apple’s best-selling products over the last 15 years has just been awarded knighthood in the United Kingdom. Sir Jonathan’s new title is officially Knight Commander of the British Empire. According to the BBC who first reported the news, Ive called the honor “thrilling” and said he was “both humbled and sincerely grateful”.

Originally born in Chingford, London in 1967, Ive has worked and lived in the U.S. even prior to beginning at Apple in 1992 where he served as lead designer for the PowerBook G4, G4 Cube, MacBook, unibody MacBook pro, MacBook Air, iPod, iPhone, and iPad.

Mr Ive’s eye for design combined effectively with Mr Jobs’ legendary attention to detail and the products that have emerged from the company since the late 1990s have turned Apple into the biggest and most influential technology company on the planet.

steve jobs apple video gamesIn anticipation of the London Games Conference kicking off November 10th, Intent Media conducted a survey (via MCV) that asked more than 1,000 industry executives which products and people have had the biggest impact on video games. With results that are likely to anger and puzzle the core gaming community, the study has found Apple and Steve Jobs as the most influential.

Some of the other names that topped the votes are a little less surprising. Jobs was able to beat out gaming industry heavyweights Gabe Newell, co-founder and managing director of Valve, and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. He even topped Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, and inventor of the World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee. 46% of participants puts Jobs in their top five Continue reading “Steve Jobs and Apple Voted to Have “Biggest Impact in Shaping The Video Game Industry”” »

Apple Steve Jobs Portrait using applesWe’ve seen a lot of creative Steve Jobs tributes since the computer industry pioneer passed away earlier this month. Apple closed stores and posted tributes from over a million fans who wrote in to the rememberingsteve@apple.com memorial, then an iPhone 4S was sent into space in tribute of Jobs, followed by probably the most incredible hair art tribute haircut you’ll see.

Sony Pictures is even rumored to be acquiring the rights for a big screen biopic. Continue reading “Artist Recreates Steve Jobs Portrait using 3,500 Macintosh Apples” »

Following the passing of computer industry pioneer Steve Jobs, the media coverage mainly depicted Jobs as an innovator, inventor, and all-round, one-of-a-kind entrepreneur. All of these things are in many respects true, but with the release of author Walter Isaacson’s new uncensored, no holds barred biography of Jobs released Monday, we are beginning to see the autocratic side of Steve, with accounts from close friends and colleagues that make him out to be more of a tyrant than an inspirational leader.

This first account comes the way of CNET who point us to an excerpt from the book based on an interview Isaacson did with Apple design guru and close friends of Jobs, Jony Ive. Continue reading “Steve Jobs Biography Gives Glimpse into the Tyrant Behind the Genius” »

With Steve Jobs’ officially authorized biography set to hit bookstores on Monday, more and more bits of information are beginning to leak. Earlier we brought you a look at several excerpts from the book on Jobs talking about Android, Bill Gates, and his biological father, among other things.

The Washington Post recently brought us a story where Jobs tells author Walter Isaacson about his ambition to build an Apple TV. A real Apple-branded HD television, not that set-top box, hobby project currently sporting the Apple TV moniker. Jobs makes it sound as if he has specific plans. By saying things like, “I finally cracked it,” it sounds like Apple may be hard at work Continue reading “Proof Steve Jobs was working on an Apple branded HDTV” »

In anticipation of the release of Walter Isaacson’s fully authorized biography of Steve Jobs, several news sources are starting to leak excerpts and little tidbits from the book. SPOILER ALERT: If you’d rather wait until the book is released, stop reading now.

AP shares this first story from the book where Jobs apparently went on a personal mission to “destroy Android” after it started to resemble iOS more and more:

Isaacson wrote that Jobs was livid in January 2010 when HTC introduced an Android phone that boasted many of the touch and other popular features of the iPhone. Apple sued, and Jobs told Isaacson in an expletive-laced rant that Google’s actions amounted to “grand theft.” “I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong,” Jobs said. “I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. The video below shows CEO of Softbank Masayoshi Son talking about a call Apple CEO Tim Cook received from Jobs at the 4S launch. As we know, this is the day before Apple announced Jobs had passed away, giving us a glimpse into the fact Jobs worked on products right until the very end.

Quote via PCMag:

“I visited Apple for the announcement of the iPhone 4S. When I was having a meeting with Tim Cook, he said, ‘Oh Masa, sorry I have to quit our meeting.’ I said, ‘Where are you going?’ He said, ‘My boss is calling me.’ That was the day of the announcement of the iPhone 4S. He said that Steve is calling me because he wants to talk about their next product. And the next day, he died.”

The images below are courtesy of app developers CoPilot who snapped these shots outside Apple’s Fifith Avenue store earlier today at the launch of the iPhone 4S. These days no one is impressed with the huge lines (it’s expected), what is impressive is the incredible artistry of this Machead’s haircut.

The main portrait of Jobs on the back of the man’s head (below) is based on the 2006 image by Albert Watson, commissioned by Fortune. Right next to it is the image of Jobs’ profile as the cut out of the Apple logo, a design created by Jonathan Mak (disputable). steve jobs appleAccording to a report from Deadline, Sony Pictures is in the process of acquiring the feature film rights for author Walter Isaacson’s new biography entitled Steve Jobs (the first official biography authorized by Jobs).

We don’t know much about the 448-page book, other than the fact Isaacson interview Jobs’ close family and friends in addition to over 40 conversations in the years prior to his passing.

If the excerpt below is any indication, it could be the definitive story of Jobs’ life and include never before heard accounts Continue reading “Sony Pictures lands rights to Steve Jobs biopic?” »

Here at the Jace Hall Show we know how passionate gamers can be about the things they love, especially when it comes to epic minecraft tributes. In the midst of the passing of one of the computer industry’s greatest pioneers, the outpouring of remembrance from gamers has been just as heartwarming as the tributes from the core Apple community.

Using what they know best, several dedicated Minecraft players have created some pretty stunning tributes to Steve Jobs. The most emotional (below) of the dedications (courtesy of KickAssTechnology) doesn’t actually show the group putting it together, but definitely hits the mark ending with Jobs’ famous quote, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life”.
