It has been a weird and interesting ride Kojima has taken us on with this whole Phantom Pain fiasco and today he hit the stage at GDC with what many hoped would finally clear the air–and now it is.
We now know that both The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes together make up Metal gear Solid 5.
You can watch the new MGS5 trailer below.

Hideo Kojima recently spoke about his thoughts on the Playstation 4 as well as on more Metal Gear spin-offs like the recent Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
Kojima did not get a chance to watch the Sony Meeting event where the PS4 was officially revealed, but he is very interested in its new functionality.
He spoke about how he is very interested in the online connectivity and social interactions the PS4 is bringing more so than its jump in fidelity.

Celebrated game developer Hideo Kojima is set to appear at this year’s GDC in late March. He will be bringing a live demo of Fox Engine along with information on the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes (via Joystiq).
The Metal Gear creator hasn’t spoken at GDC since 2009, back when we were all wondering whether or not MGS 4 would hit the 360.
The GDC official site says, “Game Developers Conference 2013 organizers have announced a special lecture from Konami’s Hideo Kojima, who will publicly show his division’s FOX Engine in detail for the first time, via demonstrations of the development process and workflow behind Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes.”

We have some brand new footage of next year’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance from the Tokyo Game Show. Kojima Productions and Platinum Games have brought us both a new trailer and now we have 15 minutes of gameplay right from the show floor (below via GT).
Revengeance will be the first action oriented title in the Metal Gear franchise, promising to bring the action we see in the cutscenes with Raiden in MGS 4 in to gameplay. We get a chance to see some new characters and presumably bosses including Monsoon (below) and Mistral.

Today in Tokyo at the 25 Anniversary Metal Gear event, Kojima productions showed off its Fox Engine with footage of something called Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. Although the details are still a little scarce this is indeed a game, not just a tech demo.
Based on the initial reactions across the web and from those that attended the event the footage was very impressive. As snake infiltrated a facility we got a chance to see how well the Fox Engine handled things like lighting, weather effects and textures.
Reports do put ‘Snake’ in the demo footage but it is unclear what snake we are seeing, another clone? Are we going back in time? Continue reading “Daily Gaming: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes” »

With MGS fans everywhere eagerly awaiting Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, today we get word that game is just to complex and powerful to run on the Playstation Vita. Developed by Platinum Games, the beat’em up, hack’n slash MG spin off will not be coming to the Vita because the console is just not powerful enough.
More specifically its the game’s free cut system that has prompted Kojima Productions creative producer Yuji Korekado to express concerns about whether or not the Sony mobile console could keep up.
The free cutting system, which is one of the main features of the upcoming title, allows players to slow time and cut through just about any object in the environment with extreme precision using Raiden’s sword. Continue reading “Daily Gaming: Metal Gear Rising on Vita?” »

A new video from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was released today that features 3 minutes of gameplay (below) (via The Verge). The footage is a VR tutorial sequence where Raiden, the game’s protagonist, shows of his “Blade Mode” abilities as well as some of his basic combat moves.
Blade Mode allows the player to slow down time in order to make precise cuts on enemies, cars, watermelons and other things. At one point in the video we see Blade Mode allow Raiden to precisely cut an enemy in order to safely free a hostage. Today at a Zone of The Enders event in Tokyo, Kojima Productions announced that it is working on a brand new Zone of The Enders project. MGS creator, Hideo Kojima helped launch the announcement for the new project temporarily dubbed “Enders Project.”
Although, it is still unclear as to whether or not this is an official announcement for a new game or just that the IP is going into proto-type development. According to a tweet of an attendee of the event in Japan the new project is a sequel to Zone of The Enders: The 2nd Runner. The tweet also mentioned that the game will not take place in a futuristic setting but in an ancient civilization instead, indicating the title is already in development.

As of yesterday, Hideo Kojima promised that there would soon be an update regarding the Fox Engine and today he definitely didn’t disappoint. The question has been brought up before: “When will the graphics ever look REAL?!”. Kojima’s Fox Engine might be the answer.
The Kojima tweet from yesterday said that Fox Engine updates will be posted to the Kojima Productions recruitment page and is targeted to “technological types” Today we see a small image on the recruitment page reading, “Fox Engine-Lighting Sample, CLASSIFIED”. The images within are renderings from the brand new Fox Engine placed next to actual photographs. Can you tell the renderings from Fox Engine apart from the real photos?
“Is it REAL, or is it FOX?” Continue reading “Unbelievable Renders From Fox Engine: Can You Tell Which Is Real?” »

With all of the news surrounding a new MGS in the works, we get some interesting news coming from a Hideo Kojima tweet today regarding what he calls “Project Ogre”. Although most of Project Ogre has lived in myth and theory, remaining mostly unknown, finally we get some insight into what the name itself actually means.
“Oh BTW, my Ogre Project doesn’t mean a game like a ogre nor a game create w/ soul of ogre but a game w/ the use of ogre.” – Kojima tweet
In the tweet, time stamped 7:12 PM – 23 Feb 12 and translated by Andriasang, Hideo explained that the term “ogre” is to be taken literally. The game, in Japanese “Oni Project”, will in some way, shape or form deal literally with ogre’s or oni. Pointed out by Andriasang,“oni” can be translated to not only “ogre” but a number of different things including the likes of “demon” and “devil”. Taking the franchise even further outside just Sony platforms, Kojima Productions has seemingly announced development on a new MGS title that could see the franchise running on the PC in addition to consoles. Kojima and his team are recruiting new talent “to help develop next-gen game engine technology for use with the ‘FOX Engine’.”
A job listing on the Konami website titled, “BIG BOSS wants YOU! THE “NEXT” MGS”, said Konami will be attending the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month in search of fresh blood. ” Kojima Productions will be returning to the GDC Career Pavilion (March 6th – 9th) to search for skillful engineers, artists, and game creators…” (booth, #1914 – Career Pavilion)
With Kojima Productions currently working with fellow Japanese Studio Platinum Games on Metal Gear Rising, and its growing interest in collaboration, it seems as though Kojima has decided to create the “Next” Metal Gear Solid both in Japan and stateside.
