A report has recently surfaced of a Wii U owner hacking into Miiverse. Nintendo said that the user only accessed a prototype debug interface. The user claimed to have accidentally hacked into a debug menu for Miiverse by no particularly inventive or advanced means. We have some images below provided by the user of the various screens accessed.
Nintendo has issued a statement to Gamesindustry International (via Joystiq) regarding the situation where it claims that the area accessed by the user was merely “a mock up menu.” Nintendo also said in the statement that the menu is now taken down and inaccessible.

A mixed bag of video gaming history this week. Open your books to page 1021 and face to the front of the class now.
On October 21, 1992, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins hit Japan, spawning a decent Super Mario game on the GameBoy and introducing the world to the ultra-annoying Wario, a character that is sort of an evil post-meth addiction version of Mario.
Six years later, on October 21, 1998 the incredibly popular Metal Gear Solid hit North American shelves. The intense game didn’t require much training according to the commercial. Continue reading “This Week in Gaming History: Double dose of Mario, Metal Gear gets Solid & Atari goes FPS” »

The newly announced Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will be introducing a number of features to the franchise. Firstly we will be playing Big Boss in what will be the series’ first open world game. Kojima is also saying the base building and weapon development from the PSP title, Peacewalker (later released in HD for the PS3), will be making a return (via Eurogamer).
Kojima is hinting at this part of the game being accessible through mobile devices for on-the-go play.

Another week gone by in the mythical land of video gaming. Here’s the rundown of what you need to know and why we’re cynical about it.
Madden NFL 13 launch crashed
This week marked the annual launch of the latest version of the Madden franchise, which first debuted during World War II. I made a quick appearance at one of the local GameStop stores for this occasion, noting an odd change in demographics from the year before. When we first heard that Mike Nelson and some of the leftover guys from MST3K were going to be heckling video games, it seemed too good to true. And despite a teaser video being released of them yelling at Gears of War 3, much time has passed and we haven’t heard much in that department.
If you’ve been waiting to see what RiffTrax (comprised of guys leftover from Mystery Science Theater) would come up for other video games, you might be relieved to hear that they’ve released another video, which comes courtesy of Joystiq and features the boys up to all their usual antics — including questioning Continue reading “RiffTrax/MST3K Guys Heckle Mega Man, Metal Gear Solid, and Final Fantasy” »

Today at a Zone of The Enders event in Tokyo, Kojima Productions announced that it is working on a brand new Zone of The Enders project. MGS creator, Hideo Kojima helped launch the announcement for the new project temporarily dubbed “Enders Project.”
Although, it is still unclear as to whether or not this is an official announcement for a new game or just that the IP is going into proto-type development. According to a tweet of an attendee of the event in Japan the new project is a sequel to Zone of The Enders: The 2nd Runner. The tweet also mentioned that the game will not take place in a futuristic setting but in an ancient civilization instead, indicating the title is already in development.
