It has been a weird and interesting ride Kojima has taken us on with this whole Phantom Pain fiasco and today he hit the stage at GDC with what many hoped would finally clear the air–and now it is.
We now know that both The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes together make up Metal gear Solid 5.
You can watch the new MGS5 trailer below.

Hideo Kojima recently spoke about his thoughts on the Playstation 4 as well as on more Metal Gear spin-offs like the recent Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
Kojima did not get a chance to watch the Sony Meeting event where the PS4 was officially revealed, but he is very interested in its new functionality.
He spoke about how he is very interested in the online connectivity and social interactions the PS4 is bringing more so than its jump in fidelity.

Celebrated game developer Hideo Kojima is set to appear at this year’s GDC in late March. He will be bringing a live demo of Fox Engine along with information on the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes (via Joystiq).
The Metal Gear creator hasn’t spoken at GDC since 2009, back when we were all wondering whether or not MGS 4 would hit the 360.
The GDC official site says, “Game Developers Conference 2013 organizers have announced a special lecture from Konami’s Hideo Kojima, who will publicly show his division’s FOX Engine in detail for the first time, via demonstrations of the development process and workflow behind Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes.”

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance releases in just a couple weeks now and today Sony and Konami have announced that the Playstation 3 version will be getting some exclusive content. Check out the screenshots in the gallery below.
The content will come in the way of 30 exclusive VR Missions. Long time Metal Gear fans will be familiar with the look and feel of Platinum’s take on the mode. The VR Mission pack “is pure, uncut gameplay that pushes Raiden’s Cyborg body to its limits.”

One might think being signed to the world’s biggest metal label is pretty much a straight ticket to greatness. Yet ask Denver, Colorado quintet Allegaeon (pronounced ‘ahleejun’) and you’ll find a band that’s had to work their asses off to get where they are. Combine the faithful tour stereotypes – a rigorous, back-breaking tour schedule, complete with broken-down tour van and the occasional bitter crowd – with an incessant attempt to push technical/genre limits (8-string guitars, songs about science, mechs, and anthropology, crazy time signatures), and you’re only getting half of the equation.
We sat down with one the guitarists, Greg Burgess, to shed light on what it’s like being on one of the genre’s rising stars.
JHS: First off: I know a few of you guys are fairly active gamers. What have you been playing lately?
Greg Burgess: The whole Gears of War franchise still blows me away, I’m still playing those quite often. Assassin’s Creed series is pretty awesome, starting on that now. I know Ez (Ezra, singer) has been playing FarCry 3. Continue reading “Making The Label: Exclusive Interview with ALLEGAEON, Metal’s Nerdiest (and Hardest-Working) New Band” »

Laura Shigihara had us with her Magic the Gathering ode, and then won our hearts over even more with her take on Plants vs. Zombies tribute.
Now she’s officially arm-canoned our asses into the year 20xx with the sheer might of this latest track, largely because she clearly a)has the skills and talent and coolness to reach back to 1989 and pull out an Ace in the form of Mega Man 2‘s Metal Man stage theme; and 2)she’s partnered with an appropriately metal guitarist who calls himself Ferdk16.
And thus we get just what we’ve always wanted: a jazzed-up/metal cover of one of Mega Man’s best themes. Continue reading “Daily Nerdcore: Laura Shigihara Does Awesome Metal Cover of Mega Man 2′s Metal Man Theme” »

You might have known at least one Mat Graham in your life — one of those guys/gals who knows how to play seemingly every damn instrument there was, and with great technical expertise/proficiency/tons of recording equipment.
With one-man metal band Artificial Fear, you’ve got a guy armed with about 4 or 5 different instruments (guitar, brass, bass, keys, drums) covering very popular, and often very overlooked, video game themes.
Most importantly, Mat’s armed with some very loud electric guitars, and manages to go to 11 on all 4 or 5 instruments rather flawlessly. So who’s ready for a face-melting? Continue reading “Daily Nerdcore: Artificial Fear Covers Diablo, Zelda, and Danny Elfman’s ‘Batman’ Theme…Only Louder” »

When you need a bunch of classic anime themes covered by a power metal band, who do you call? ANIMETAL USA, dammit. Comprised of some of heavy metal’s most dedicated veterans, AUSA do some pretty dead-on and polished versions of everything from the theme to Dragonball Z to Makafushigi Adventure to Neon Genesis Evangelion.
If this means anything, Chris Impellitteri, Mike Vescara, Jon Dette and Rudy Sarzo are from some of the most respected metal bands on the planet — Slayer, the unpronounceable Yngwie Malmsteen, and Ozzy Osbourne among them. Personally, it’s a very welcome (and loud) respite from the overdose of sub-average nerdcore acts all over the planet. Rick Santorum, the Republican Candidate accused of everything from gay-bashing to all out bigotry, is now apparently worried about something else. There’s another evil in America hiding in obscurity — far off the pop charts and in the iPods of calculating teenagers, soon to morph them into budding Columbine-ers. It’s called heavy metal, and it must be stopped.
At least that’s exactly what Tyranny of Tradition what’s you to think Continue reading “Rick Santorum Declares War On Heavy Metal? Not Quite (Yet?)” »

American Metal is different than what you might find in other places of the world. One might blame that on the unnatural influx of hair metal pop bands like Winger and Warrant in the late 80s, as the backlash against it in the form of the grunge scene circa 1991 was welcomed with open arms Continue reading “Metal in America: Dead or Alive?” »
