Canadian indie studio Switchblade Monkeys is ready to give gamers a taste of something new, but familiar with Secret Ponchos, a game unique enough to defy typical genre classification. Essentially it is a top-down, competitive action-shooter, combining a variety of influences from the isometric camera of MOBA games, the competitive tit-for-tat of fighting games and the matchmaking of shooters, to the stylistic elements of the spaghetti western genre. The game will let players become notorious outlaws in the visually striking Wild West town of Lonetree, that is if they have the skills to make their name known.
Ponchos is competitive at its core and allows players to fight for reputation in one on one duels, free for all shoot-outs, or cooperative team matches. Higher reputation lets players customize the unique skill set of their chosen outlaw, allowing players to tailor their outlaw to their own play style. The game will be out sometime this year on PSN and XBLA.

Mongrel is a new deeply customizable fighting game for iOS in development by two man team, Blake Whitworth and Stephan Messier. The two just recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Unreal Engine powered mobile fighter.
Mongrel is set in a fascinating alternate version of human evolution where “Animals have evolved into humanoid hybrids.”
You are a Mongrel–low on the caste system, you are a lesser hybrid and a slave. You must fight your way through perilous battles with other mongrels and giant beasts alike. “To quickly gain status in a harsh and brutal world, they are given the opportunity to fight for their freedom in the mongrel arenas,” artistic lead Stephan Messier told us.

It is completely normal for companies to conduct surveys and things like that to gauge how well a game is doing or has done. Recently an Assassins’s Creed 3 survey surfaced with mostly innocent questions regarding the latest release but there were a few interesting questions at the end.
In fact the GMI distributed survey is now said to be commissioned by Ubisoft. The survey asks questions to fans about another Assassin’s Creed title in 2013, co-op multiplayer and more.

The highly anticipated Bioshock: Infinite is coming early next year and it looks as though we will not be getting multiplayer with it. To some multiplayer has become a tacked on feature and in many cases takes away from the single player experience. In other cases multiplayer is one of the biggest selling features.
Gamers seem to be fairly divided when it comes to multiplayer but if there is one thing many of us can agree on its that not every game needs to have a mulitplayer option.
When Bioshock 2 shipped with what many people felt was an unnecessary multiplayer suite, it was assumed that the developers added it in because they felt the game would sell better because of it.

I tried coming up with a more creative/catchier title, but honestly, what the hell else is there to say other than look at the infographic below. Sure gameplay doesn’t always mean greatness, but holy Master Chief if some of these stats don’t blow you away:
- 20 million games played…
- Over 123 Trillion Minutes Played…
That doesn’t even include the time spent on Continue reading “Why HALO Might Be The Greatest Game of The Modern Era (Yes I Have Statistics)” »

At the Spring Showcase 2012 Microsoft event last week, brand new information and footage from the next iteration of the Halo franchise, Halo 4, was showcased by its creators. The folks over at 343 Industries presented a short documentary (below) regarding the direction for Halo 4 and also provided a ton of details during the event (via Venture Beat).
We can derive new details about the upcoming game, and possibly get the real story behind why the red and blue Spartans hate each other. Slated to hit store shelves this holiday for the Xbox 360, Halo 4 is really shaping up to be both a brand new experience and a major upgrade on what we all know and love about the series. We’ve learned Halo 4 will run at 1280×720 (30 frames per second), up from the 1152×720 of Reach, but that’s just the beginning.
We’ve compiled a list about everything that we now know about the new game including a brand new progression system, new on-screen icons and text, fully customizable load-outs, and new info about multiplayer. If you’re like me, you probably feel a sense of urgency to purchase a game the first week, or even the first day it’s released. Aggressive marketing campaigns months in advance of a game’s release certainly helps build the anticipation, but is it really worth NOT waiting for the inevitable price drops, patches, and reviews in the weeks following a title’s launch? In my experience, it rarely is.
First of all, the majority of games will see a price drop within the first three months of release, many much sooner. If that isn’t reason enough, the deal gets even sweeter when devs end up bundling previously paid DLC into the retail copy of the game– sometimes for even less than the game originally debuted for without Continue reading “#ThoughtsOnGaming: Avoiding Buying Games at Launch May Not Be A Bad Idea” »
