If you’re familiar in the least with Arrested Development, you probably know how cult-like fans are in their unabashed worship of the show. Talk to any of them for a little and you’ll hear how Job and Tobias were two of the greatest things to ever happen to prime time — and ever since they left, things just aren’t the same.

Today fans can rest assured with the knowledge that, according to ScreenRant, the official answer is ‘yes’, and that co-writer Dean Lorey has confirmed personally via his blog that the show is officially happening. lovefilmAs of tomorrow, XBox 360 users worldwide will have access to streaming 24-hour film content thanks to LOVEFiLM, who are basically the UK-based equivalent of Netflix.

It might be another blow to the stomach for Netflix, after suffering its share of financial and critical blunders earlier this year.

Amazon, which made the hefty purchase (over $300 million earlier this year), now has full control over the company, which will enable you to download movies — even stuff as recent as Twilight: Eclipse is going to be available (not sure what movie theaters would have to say about that). Extra good news Continue reading “Is Netflix in Trouble Again? XBox and LOVEFiLM May Be Newest Rivals” »

It was merely a decade ago when humans had to adjust a pair of rabbit ear antennas to retrieve content through their TV set. But here we are in 2011, where phones talk to us instead of us talking to them and where politicians don’t get caught cheating in office, but on twitter. Times are clearly changing, and inherent within all of this is how content is delivered to us, particularly on our television set.

For those of you perusing the market, gawking at the endless choices of how to get all of your reality TV shows, Blu-Ray, video games, and movies on one device, there might be a lot of confusion. Undoubtedly there Continue reading “6 Ways You Could Be Watching TV a Year From Now” »

photo of amazon rime versus netflixAmazon announced yesterday that it had increased the library of its “Amazon Prime” streaming service towards its goal of 13,000 titles by early next year.

The deal will allow Amazon Prime members to access all prior seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, every episode of Lost, and all previous seasons of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, among other series.

This happened almost simultaneously with Netflix announcement that they had re-newed their deal with Disney and will maintain such titles as Private Practice, Brothers and Sisters, and Ugly Betty, as well as new additions, including Switched at Birth, Kick Buttowski and Alias.

Nothing to terribly ride home about, in essence Continue reading ““Amazon Prime” Readies For The Spotlight, Takes on Netflix With New Deal” »

reed hasting netflix photoIt was a mere year ago when my fellow movie watching brethren were praising to high heavens the glory that was Netflix and its streaming video service. Of course, we’d occasionally dabble in a DVD that had arrived via the arcane and rather rudimentary process of the United States Postal Service, formerly the pony express before that. Netflix was undoubtedly the light illuminating our entertainment lives.

But as of last month, I am no longer a subscriber to Netflix, something that I have in common with 800,000 other people who also bowed out during the last three months. Netflix raked in Continue reading “Is Netflix Dying? What Will It Take to Overcome Massive FAILS?” »

Before Qwikster even had time to un-box the business cards, Netflix killed off the sister (or younger, ugly, ignored little brother) company that was supposed to be their “DVD division.”

Netflix, which has made more public statements than Oprah, said that the move to divide the company into two seperate affiliates, let alone websites, was a mistake. In related news, water is wet, the sky is (sometimes) blue and Kim Kardashian is still famous for no reason. Netflix continues to make a splash in the news, this time for the better, with the announcement that they’ll be expanding their content library with titles from the AMC Network library.

What might be the biggest coup for Netflix out of the deal is that The Walking Dead will be exclusive to Netflix in the U.S. and Canada, heading towards the shows debut on October 12th.

The Walking Dead debuted its webseries online yesterday Continue reading “NETFLIX Looks to “Zombies” to Rebound, Regain Subscribers” »

An update was finally pushed out today for the Android Netflix app, bringing with it support for ALL Android 2.2 and 2.3 devices.

Prior to today’s update the app was only compatible with a handful of handsets, annoying quite a few Android users (to say the least). The good news is the update brings support to approximately 80% of Android devices (according to the Android developers resources), so chances are your device is covered.

Up until now there were a few workarounds to getting Netflix up and running on unsupported devices, but an official update is better late than never. However, it seems there is still no decent tablet support, apart from a few including the Lenovo ThinkPad and IdeadPad K1. A great example of Android’s fragmentation at work. Either way, the update is certainly welcomed. Continue reading “Netflix now available on all Android 2.2 (Froyo) and 2.3 (Gingerbread) devices” »

This ain’t good….

Starz Entertainment announced today that it has ceased contract negotiations with Netflix, and on September 8th will be yanking its content from the movies/TV streaming service. You may not have heard of Starz, but they’re the ones who have rights to Toy Story 3, a LOT of animated shows, and a good chunk of the content that populates Netflix.

I guess Game of Thrones just wasn’t worth it, eh?

The Associated Press came out with an article today reporting that the decline of American cable subscribers has expanded in the last year, going from what they’ve described as a “trickle” to “a flowing stream.” As the unemployment rate goes up, it looks like people’s disposable income for cable is going down. I need a drink: Netflix and Comcast both make Bad Decisions

Guys, say it with me. The future of the internet, will be in the delivery of cheap content, at high speeds, with payments seemingly “invisible” to users. We got that, right? So why on earth are two Internet giants dropping the ball today like Lebron in the fourth quarter?

It's okay Lebron, we'll all forget about this soon

So, we’ve got two bits of news here. First: Netflix. Netflix announced 60% price increases today and shifted a lot of their plans around. Their single DVD plan now will coast you $9.99/month, (previously about how much their DVD+Streaming cost), and DVD+Streaming now will cost $15.98/month. Streaming-only is going to be $7.99/month…you get the picture.

So why the change? Weeeell there were rumbling lately about Sony pulling its movies from Netflix after a certain term of their contact was reached. Now that Netflix is dominating bandwidth across North America, it’s likely that Cable providers are strong-arming the streaming service in order to make sure live TV doesn’t go the way of the Dinosaur. Fan-TASTIC idea boys! ‘Cause making something more expensive is TOTALLY going to drive customers to the more-expensive-and-less convenient service instead of Piracy.

Ugh. So, unfortunately today, that’s the boring news. Here’s the good stuff.

This story making the rounds of the web is a potential vision of Draconian internet laws to come. Blogger Andre Vrignaud recently had his service cut off from Comcast for a year. The reason? He’d violated his 250 gb/mo data cap—twice. But how did he violate it, you ask? It wasn’t pirating tons of software. It wasn’t downloading mountains of Porn. No, he violated it by legally using all his streaming services and cloud-uploading services, the latter of which shotgunned his bandwidth usage and shot him past the cap. (He was syncing .RAW and other big file size formats to multiple clouds and servers.)

And because of that, Comcast saw fit to deny him internet for a year. And in his area, there are no other ISPs. This man is without internet.

Is that the future we want? Where companies can just kill our internet just because we’re using our services legally? Because that 250gb per month also includes uploading files?

I do not think so.
