Moon Rift is a 2.5D platformer shooter with a “virtually limitless amount of insane guns to collect!” The game is currently in development by sole creator Sam Hutcher and will be releasing for Android and iOS later this year, followed by PC, Linux, OUYA and Mac releases.
Think a 2.5D Borderlands-like experience with random levels and procedurally generated enemies. “I wanted to focus a little more on the old school RPG feel, Hutcher tells us. “I would have to say game draws a lot of inspiration from games like Zelda or the old Final Fantasies, as well as the shoot em up games like Borderlands.”

It’s being called the “Ultimate Gaming Mouse” which is not to be confused with our Ultimate Gaming Machine (which may or may not have said mouse as one of it’s features in the near future).
The Ultimate Gaming Mouse is quite fittingly designed by BMW, the maker of the “Ultimate Driving Machine.” While this one doesn’t hug the road, it does promise to make PC gaming that much more precise and perhaps convert fanboys away from consoles making them forget joysticks and triggers forever.
The mouse is officially referred to as the Thermaltake Level 10 M — designed by BMW design works in partnership with computer peripheral manufacturer Thermalake. Continue reading “Daily Gaming: BMW Rolls Out What Could Be The Greatest Gaming Mouse Of All Time” »

Minecraft has grown to be hugely popular with its blocky, throw back appearance but it looks as though some amazing mods are introducing a couple new updates to the graphical presentation of the title.
Minecraft recently broke the record for the fastest selling title on XBLA so we aren’t sure it really needs any help but the updated visuals certainly add a new dimension to the world. Minecraft has sold over 3 million copies on XBLA alone. Continue reading “DAILY GAMING: Minecraft Mod Adds Improved Shadows and Water” »

If there’s someone I least expected to come out hating on Windows so adamantly, it’s Valve‘s software chief.
I dunno why — it has nothing to do with him pocketing about $13 million working for them, which in turn enabled him to start up Valve. But man, he really blasted them on the whole Windows 8.
Yet that’s exactly what Gabe Newell has already labeled the new Windows: “(It’s) a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space,” to be exact.
He also believes Continue reading “DAILY TECH: Valve Chief Calls Windows 8 an Epic Fail, “Catastrophe” That Will Drive Away Game Makers” »

At first what looks like a variation on those giant reject Hunter-Killers from the Terminator movies appears from the shadow, complete with mini-gun, giant omniscient eye, and of course a very threatening and very armored stature. But it only wants to play! Or be played, I guess.
Seriously it looks sort of like a much more sinister Johnny 5 from Short Circuit, only with more attitude and of course that big f*cking gatling gun. Kotaku gives us the tech specifics — namely, that Continue reading “That Giant Killer Robot Is Really Just a Gaming PC!” »

Fans asked for it and today Namco Bandai finally delivered with the official announcement of Dark Souls for PC at an event in Las Vegas. The new edition is a result of a petition from gamers to port the game, which was originally released in October on consoles, to PCs.
The petition was originally published in early January of this year and since received over 90,000 signatures, which is apparently enough to convince Namco Bandai to release the port in both digital and physical releases this August. In a day where consoles are king, and PC gaming is seemingly falling to the wayside, some recently released stats show us exactly how PC gaming is doing. The infographic shows us that PC gaming, thanks to Valve and Steam users, is just as important and popular as ever.
Analyzing Valve’s market share through Steam, the graphic (below) from VideoGameDesignSchools gives us an interesting perspective. With over 40 million Steam accounts (a tie with Xbox Live), Valve currently has approximately 51% of the digital game distirbution market, beating out closest competitors Amazon, Gamestop, and MS Games. Taking the franchise even further outside just Sony platforms, Kojima Productions has seemingly announced development on a new MGS title that could see the franchise running on the PC in addition to consoles. Kojima and his team are recruiting new talent “to help develop next-gen game engine technology for use with the ‘FOX Engine’.”
A job listing on the Konami website titled, “BIG BOSS wants YOU! THE “NEXT” MGS”, said Konami will be attending the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month in search of fresh blood. ” Kojima Productions will be returning to the GDC Career Pavilion (March 6th – 9th) to search for skillful engineers, artists, and game creators…” (booth, #1914 – Career Pavilion)
With Kojima Productions currently working with fellow Japanese Studio Platinum Games on Metal Gear Rising, and its growing interest in collaboration, it seems as though Kojima has decided to create the “Next” Metal Gear Solid both in Japan and stateside.
