Ubisoft is in the process of creating a film adaption of the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise. The film will star Michael Fassbender who will also being taking on a co-production role with his DMC Film company.
Ubisoft had already been in talks with Sony last year regarding a film adaption of the AC Series. Since then negotiations have come to halt and Ubisoft executives now plan to produce the film independently in order to maintain creative control. Despite Prometheus‘ fairly impressive box office records, critics seemed divided on how the movie itself worked. This was mainly due to how stupid those Weyland scientists were in their willingness to reach out and touch alien life. Hopefully this explains it all.
Even Roger Ebert, who gave the film 4 stars, acknowledged this shortcoming when he posted this video by BarelyPolitical, entitled “Pre-Prequel Prometheus,” which focuses on Weyland Industries’ highly-regimented science training refresher course. ‘Why’d you go into science if you didn’t want to poke aliens?’ Continue reading “Reach Out and Touch Snakes: Prometheus’ Pre-Prequel Explains Why Those Scientists Are So Dumb” »

Whether you dug Prometheus or not, I guess Ridley Scott is going ahead with his planned Blade Runner reboot/prequel/whatever-the-hell it’s going to be as well, so it looks as though Ridley and Science Fiction are going to be bosom buddies for at least the foreseeable future.
So as we wait for what SIR Scott has in store for the continued tale of Deckard’s predecessor and/or replicants, there’s the brilliantly talented (and possibly masochistic) artists like Anders Ramsell who has painted in watercolor over each frame for the first 12 minutes of the original. I can’t think of a better duo of reviewers/hosts to delve into the problems with Prometheus than Red Letter Media, a couple of semi-comatose possibly serial-killing movie goers who may or may not work at Target, to analyze the movie — and do it so well and entertainingly. Lots of the usual questions pop up, and ones I tried my best to ignore, to no avail.
The most obvious ones first:
-Why would the characters respond to potentially hostile and creepy looking alien life by wanting to reach out and PET it?
-While we’re at it, how could such ‘bright’ scientists be so f*cking dumb? Continue reading “The Rant: Let’s Talk About PROMETHEUS, Baby (SPOILERS)” »

As the creative interpretations of trailers/GOT scenes/topical pop culture phenom continue to pour in, sometimes I wonder if there’s only so much a guy can take.
Yet whether with Legos, bad costumes, and cardboard props, the cheap and Ed Wood-ian can often turn into something better than the actual thing.
Thank god that someone had the genius then to animate the entire Prometheus trailer with nothing but hand-drawn cutouts — Continue reading “‘Prometheus’ Cut-Out Animation Trailer is Insane (And So Are Its Creators, Maybe)” »

To call Ridley Scott’s Prometheus the most anticipated science fiction movie in years could very well be an understatement. Even Avatar didn’t have this much riding on it — the overwhelming hype was mitigated by knowing it was, after all, Hollywood untouchable James Cameron, that it was an entirely new world/saga/set of characters, and that the super-technical 3D and new technology would sort of overshadow the Pocahontas-cum-Dances With Wolves plotline.
But with Prometheus, critics seem intent on getting an Alien prequel out of the film, even if it’s not really there — and it’s being reflected in their reviews. Thus, if you were hoping for across the board, glowing, A+ ratings, you’re not going to get them. Far from it, in fact: Continue reading “The Reviews Are In: Just How Good/Bad/Mediocre is Alien Semi-Prequel Prometheus?” »

With a sh*tload of blockbusters lined up for this summer, there’s been some interesting marketing strategies employed by movie studios to heighten the suspense.
Among the most anticipated films are Prometheus and The Dark Knight Rises, with the latter having arguably the more cerebral of the two. WB had the frustrating marketing countdown timer map, the “Occupation Early Bird” with “strategic points” corresponding with Bane’s strike zones, the CIA documents linked to Twitter…you get it.
Most recently fans were supplied with the most rewarding one: deciphering yet another bunch of scenes to get a look Continue reading “Prometheus vs. The Dark Knight Rises: L337 Marketing Strategies FIGHT” »

If there’s one auteur who’s known for not suffering fools, it’s Sir Ridley Scott. Via Bleeding Cool, the Blade Runner/Alien/Thelma & Louise director railed against the MPAA for its hypocrisy and overall lack of logic, at least when it comes to its method of doling out ratings. Apparently all it took was an audience member at a recent screening of Prometheus scenes, asking him what the rating would be:

Okay, they’re just trailers. But A)it’s a KICKASS week for trailers, and B)sometimes trailers end up being better than the actual movies — for instance, take every Roland Emmerich film ever made.
Most of you have seen TDKR trailer, which is simply action film pr0n and marble-mouthed Bane, but it’s Prometheus, the kinda-but-not-really prequel to the ALIEN franchise, that has sci-fi fanboys/girls everywhere gawking and talking. And while ET or whomever released a teaser for the teaser itself this past weekend, it’s not quite the same as having an actual trailer.
