PlayStay4With Sony ready to pull back the curtain on its next iteration of the PlayStation tomorrow, now is a pertinent time to speculate. However, rather than gaze dewey-eyed at the glories that could be, let us throw a cautious glance in the other direction and ruminate on what we would be loath to hear fall from Sony’s lips during tomorrow’s announcement.

Here are five mistakes we hope Sony does not make with the PlayStation 4: Continue reading “5 Things We Don’t Want To See from the PlayStation 4” »

91 (1)We reported to you on the delayed release date for Rayman Legends last week. The game was pushed back several months to bring it over to the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Today we have images courtesy of Eurogamer of the game’s creator and other members of the development team in protest over the game’s delay. You can see both images in the gallery below.

Michel Ancel, the game’s creator and well respected game developer, is depicted in the image along with other devs and an image of Rayman himself which says: “Sortez nous Rayman. Soutient a Ubi Montpellier,” which translates to “Release Rayman. Support Ubisoft Montpellier.” A sad Rayman shown in the image, says “SVP” or “Please.”

video-game-noir-batman-arkham-city-via-wccftechTime Warner has announced that a new entry in the Batman Arkham franchise will be coming this year. Unfortunatly just about nothing is known about the title at this point.

During the company’s Q4 2012 financial call, CFO and Chief Administrative Officer John K. Martin said that, “We also have a strong game release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise.”

As posted by Yahoo Finance via GT, Martin continued with, “So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012.”

We last reported on the development of ARMA 3 when two of its developers (Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar) were arrested and detained in Greece on charges of alleged espionage. The two say they were there on vacation and have been wrongfully jailed. Unfortunately, according to todays Bohemia press release, they remain in custody.

Today we get word from Bohemia Interactive that ARMA 3 will be delayed from its original 2012 release date to next year (via Joystiq). “The additional development time enables the project to reach its full potential, with the studio expecting to finalize their release plans in the new year.”

For fans looking for one of the most massive MMOFPS in gaming history — the wait is over.

Sony Online Entertainment announced today that the award winning  shooter is now available in North America and Europe.

PlanetSide 2 takes all the massive multiplayer battles and enourmous landscapes from the original PlanetSide and combines them with the new SOE proprietary MMO engine  ForgeLight, allowing players to participate in all the fast-paced action of conventional First Person Shooters inside a massive world with thousands of other people.

Says PlanetSide 2 Creative Director Matt Higby:

“We set out to create a massive, unprecedented game, and we succeeded. PlanetSide 2 will break records for its size and combat…Now, it’s the players’ turn to make history. The war stories of brutal combat, acts of valor, casualties and victories from beta testing have been epic. But, the slate is clean, and the game has launched. It’s time to create legends.”

Part of PlanetSide 2′s reward system allows players to earn battle experience by increasing certifications and unlock access to new roles and customization options. It’s part of an overall experience that Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley says is unlike anything gamers have ever seen:

“PlanetSide 2 sets the new standard for shooters…With thousands of players fighting simultaneously across several beautiful, massive continents, the size and intensity of PlanetSide 2 has no equal. You’ve never played anything like it.”

In addition to being one of the most massive multiplayer shooters in gaming history, PlanetSide 2 is also the first game to integrate live broadcasting functionality through the streaming site Twitch. Gamers can now stream gameplay directly to the twitch platform with a single click.

PlanetSide 2 is now available as a free to play game, with an enhanced membership option at $9.99/month for players looking for priority log-in status, cash bonuses, scalable gains for resources and passive cert points.

To begin playing, download PlanetSide 2 from Steam here.

And the trailer that DIDN’T make the cut…

Out of the UK today a 2012 release schedule from a major UK retailer has leaked two brand new titles we haven’t previously heard of. Our friends at MCV have gotten their hands on the release schedule which points to both a brand new Batman game and a new Battlefield title. The schedule apparently also has a brief mention about a 2012 release of Rockstar’s GTA V.

MCV reports that, firstly, the Batman title is some kind of tie-in to the upcoming film The Dark Knight Rises. The Warner Bros’ upcoming film is slated to hit the public this summer. This information is also leading us to believe that the game tie-in will be a full physical launch and not just some kind of Continue reading “The Dark Knight Rises Game Tie-in leaked by UK Retailer?” »

ipad 2 multipleAccording to the often reliable Asian trade publication DigiTimes, who relays information from various sources within the asian supply chain, Apple is prepping two new iPads for 2012. This probably isn’t reason to hold off from buying an iPad 2 as the most interesting upgrade will be coming in the later half of next year, but it does back up previous rumors of a new iPad in the 7-inch category…

The report says Apple is “likely to launch” a 7.85-inch iPad before the begininning of Q4 2012. In addition to that yet to be unveiled device, they also say a “new iPad” (fingers crossed for a full fledged iPad 3 upgrade) sometime towards the end of Q1. That puts us in a March timeframe for the iPad 3, which would lineup with previous releases and current rumors from other sources.

When it comes to the 7.85-inch model, which we’ve also heard various rumors about in the past, DigiTimes’ sources say Apple is particularly looking at taking on Amazon’s Kindle Fire and similar devices that might be stealing potential new iPad customers: Continue reading “New iPads: Apple to launch 7.85-inch iPad and iPad 3 in 2012” »

Transformer prime tabletTransformers jokes and potential trademark related legal issues aside, Asus is ready to drop the new model of their Eee Pad tablet– the Transformer Prime. The Android-powered tablet will be the first to include Nvidia’s new Tegra 3 quad-core chip (Kal-El), a new benchmark for processing power in mobile devices that blows by the Apple’s A5 chip included in the market’s leader– iPad 2.

If this is your first time looking at the Transformer Prime, allow me to explain. The device is an Android 3.2-powered tablet (4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich shortly after launch) with a 10.1-inch display that also offers an optional keyboard dock ($149) allowing you to Continue reading “Meet the World’s First Quad-Core Tegra 3 Tablet: Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime” »

If you’re like me, you probably feel a sense of urgency to purchase a game the first week, or even the first day it’s released. Aggressive marketing campaigns months in advance of a game’s release certainly helps build the anticipation, but is it really worth NOT waiting for the inevitable price drops, patches, and reviews in the weeks following a title’s launch? In my experience, it rarely is.

First of all, the majority of games will see a price drop within the first three months of release, many much sooner. If that isn’t reason enough, the deal gets even sweeter when devs end up bundling previously paid DLC into the retail copy of the game– sometimes for even less than the game originally debuted for without Continue reading “#ThoughtsOnGaming: Avoiding Buying Games at Launch May Not Be A Bad Idea” »

iphone 5 photoThe mostly accurate Digitimes is reporting (citing the usual supply chain sources) that Apple is in the process of prepping for a 2012 release of complete overhauls for four of their major product lines– iPhone, iPad, iMac, and MacBook Air.

When it comes to an iPhone, it’s clear most rumors and hints point towards a redesign resembling that thinner, possibly tapered, teardrop design that many were referring to as the iPhone 5 prior to the iPhone 4S launch.

However, the report doesn’t offer any details as to what the the “overhaul” may entail. Of course, there is some doubt of the 2012 release window with the iPhone 4S launching to such positive reviews and incredible Continue reading “Completely Redesigned iPhone, iPad, iMac, and MacBook Air Coming Next Year?” »
