There is definitely no shortage of praise for Apple’s award winning brick-and-mortar retail experience. With their highly successful run of over 357 retail locations worldwide, Apple has been able to do something that many of their biggest competitors, like Microsoft, have struggled to do for years.

We know developer Rovio is trying to capitalize as much as possible on its little iOS franchise known as Angry Birds. Apple has released an update to their Apple Store app that yet again is an example of their constant innovation in retail.
The new update includes two major new features– Personal Pickup and EasyPay, which together make it easier for customers to order, purchase, and pickup products from an Apple retail store using their iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.
EasyPay is essentially a self-checkout solution that will allow customers to walk into an Apple Store and purchase select accessories by scanning a barcode and paying within the app.
In other words, you’ll be able to check yourself out and purchase products without ever interacting with an Apple Store employee. You won’t be able to purchase a shiny new $1000+ Mac yourself, however, the feature Continue reading “Apple continues innovating retail experience with Personal Pickup, EasyPay, and Track Your Stuff” »

While as of yet it only sells Chromebooks and a few accessories, Google has officially opened up their first retail store in London today. Located inside PC World on Tottenham Court Road, the space is actually more of a store within a store and at only 285 square, it’s far from the latest grandiose Apple Store opening. Still, as a Google spokesperson notes, this marks Google’s “first foray into physical retail” and if successful could lead to a more aggressive brick and mortar retail approach.
“It is our first foray into physical retail. This is a new channel for us and it’s still very, very early days. It’s something Google is going to play with and see where it leads.”- Arvind Desikan, Google UK head of consumer marketing
