Picture 40NASA and Rovio have teamed up to put an Angry Birds exhibit in the Kennedy Space Center in Orlando Florida, centered around the Angry Birds in Space theme and complete with B-movie esque moniker Angry Birds Space Encounter.

The exhibit was first announced about a year ago by astronaut Donald Pettit when he was living aboard the International Space Station — and while we were first apt to attribute such an idea to space sickness, Rovio and NASA officially opened the exhibit at Cape Canaveral last Friday. Both companies are launching the exhibit with the hope that it inspires more kids to get excited about space and want to explore it.  Continue reading “Rovio and NASA Hope to Jump-Start Space Race With New “Angry Birds” Exhibit” »

The Angry Birds Air Swimmers are remote controlled Angry Birds toys that fly. There are four different characters available that are based off the popular Flitter Fairies the William Marks Corporation (WMC) created.

The Angry Birds Air Swimmers are essentially remote controlled floating balloons.

Based off the idea of sharks “flying” through the water, WMC designed Air Swimmers do to just that. Originally the user would have to flap the tail or wings of the device for it to fly but with the new “turbo” designed Angry Birds Air Swimmers the device takes care of that part on its own. All the user has to do is basically steer the bird around the room.

Check out the promotional video below to see the Angry Birds Air Swimmers in action.

Rovio has something big in the works. According to the Angry Birds Twitter page the “Next big thing” from Rovio will be announced October 8, 2012 (via Joystiq). Yesterday the company teased us with an ominous image and the caption: “Who could this be? Check back tomorrow for a hint!” We now know it is an angry bird in a Jedi costume of sorts.

The developers behind the famous bird shooter have teamed up with the Star Wars license holders to create what will most likely be a new Angry Birds game in the theme of Star Wars.

On the heels of the massively successful Angry Birds, Finnish game maker Rovio is set to launch a new title. The new game will be called Amazing Alex and centers around the main character, a curious young boy named Alex.

Rovio CEO Mikael Hed told a Yle’s breakfast television show this morning about the new game and that it should be available for release in roughly two months time. Hed went on to say the game features a bit of an educational element to it based on the main character’s curiosity to build things. The somewhat inexplicable desire to bring the world of all things Angry Birds to a theme park setting began with China, albeit in a somewhat limiting setting encumbered by immobile bricks and an iffy slingshot.

Now, onto Finland, the proverbial home of the world’s highest suicide rate and where they could surely use a few good laughs.

According to Geekosystem, mobile gaming company Rovio will supervise the construction of the theme park, which is opening inside another theme park altogether: Finland’s Särkänniemi Adventure Park. Continue reading “When Angry Birds Get Their Own Theme Park” »

Even though some of the biggest iOS developers like Rovio are embracing piracy of its incredibly popular Angry Birds franchise, knockoffs like Misunderstood Pigs and Super Jump World by the NER Brothers may not be safe for long. The Guardian reported Apple today started to remove a number of notable fakes from the App Store, most of which are the work of one developer.

Anton Sinelnikov is the creator of Plants vs. Zombie, Angry Ninja Birds, Temple Jump, Tiny Birds, Zombie Air Highway, and Numbers With Friends. They are all clones of some of the most popular games from some of the biggest developers and publishers like Temple Run, Words With Friends, and PopCap’s Plants vs. Zombies. The worst part is many people have been scammed out of money thinking they were buying the real thing. Fortunately Apple has finally stepped up and removed the app’s. If you wondered why Rovio hasn’t done anything about those Angry Birds knock offs floating around the App Store and Android Market (like Misunderstood Pigs), it might be because the company actually thinks piracy is a good thing.

At a conference in Cannes this morning, Rovio’s chief executive Mikael Hed told the publication about his unique views on piracy as one of the most successful mobile game developers/publishers. Although he noted that the Angry Birds franchise faces a ton of piracy from apps to consumer goods, he ultimately said they plan to learn from the music industry’s mistakes and embrace piracy. misunderstood pigs angry birdsWe are constantly hearing about Angry Birds– whether it’s an Angry Birds birthday cake, Angry Birds themed parks, or milestone announcements.

It’s about time that the franchise’s next biggest character, the fat pigs (who are probably pretty angry themselves), get some love too. Cult of Mac points us to Misunderstood Pigs, a new iOS game that reverses the roles of Angry Birds’ main characters giving the pigs a chance to go on the offensive. angry birds plagiarismAnyone familiar with two of the most popular iOS games– Angry Birds and Cut the Rope– will immediately see the inspiration behind this blatant knock off title currently claiming top spot among free apps in the App Store.

The gameplay of ‘Cut the Birds’ is actually more of a mixup between Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja, although Rovio has the most to be upset about as the main characters of the game are pretty much Angry Bird clones.

There is no shortage of games that rip-off the most popular iOS title’s mechanics and naming schemes Continue reading “‘Cut the Birds’ takes App Store plagiarism to another level” »
