Canadian indie studio Switchblade Monkeys is ready to give gamers a taste of something new, but familiar with Secret Ponchos, a game unique enough to defy typical genre classification.  Essentially it is a top-down, competitive action-shooter, combining a variety of influences from the isometric camera of MOBA games, the competitive tit-for-tat of fighting games and the matchmaking of shooters, to the stylistic elements of the spaghetti western genre.  The game will let players become notorious outlaws in the visually striking Wild West town of Lonetree, that is if they have the skills to make their name known.

Ponchos is competitive at its core and allows players to fight for reputation in one on one duels, free for all shoot-outs, or cooperative team matches. Higher reputation lets players customize the unique skill set of their chosen outlaw, allowing players to tailor their outlaw to their own play style.  The game will be out sometime this year on PSN and XBLA.

We talked to Switchblades’ President and Creative Director Yousuf Mapara to learn more about the game’s development.

A new action RPG surfaced earlier this year called Oceanhorn. The developers released a brief and secret gameplay video which gave us our first glimpse at the game in action. The title is developed by Cornfox and Bros. which consists of one of the devs from the iOS racing game Death Rally. Check out the brand new gameplay video below.

Early impression of the first gameplay video were very positive, with an excellent graphical style and what looks to be very fluid gameplay.

After quite a long period of time without any mention of the title, earlier this week the Oceanhorn creators posted some new screenshots and said that the game’s development is moving along well.

What began as a rumor in the original Diablo over 15 years ago, before segueing to reality with Diablo II some five years later, has been taken yet one step further in the franchise’s most recent installment. We’re talking of course about the much whispered-about ‘Cow Level” — where a random cow appears, supposedly giving players access to the level many of us still harbor an obsession with.

While I have yet to experience this one, players gain access to the level after acquiring a certain number of items and goods. And then, “a level of sparkling happiness and rainbows awaits you.” Continue reading “Secret Diablo 3 Level ‘Whimsyshire’ is a Horrifying Hell of Unicorns and Rainbows” »

Yesterday it was the news of a new live action Halo series coming this fall, and like Dragon Age and Assassins Creed before it, Ghost Recon Future Soldier will also be receiving the same treatment. The film, titled Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Alpha, will be a 25 minute prequel to the upcoming game.

The short film features an award winning list of filmmakers. The film is directed by Academy Award winning directors Hervé de Crécy and François Alaux, and the script is penned by the Oscar nominee Tim Sexton as well as George Pruss. Last but not least the film will feature cinematography by Trant Opaloch of District 9 fame.
