Today we get the official word that the Star Trek video game is on its way and will be releasing on April 23, 2013. Milk Plus refuses to play it safe. He’s found his calling in nerdcore and tried to differentiate himself from the pack — largely by rapping over songs comprised from several different genres — ska and reggae among his obvious favorites.
At other times, MP is content to dabble in a bit of dubstep, as well as a bit of the old fashioned hip-hop beats that made guys like Eazy-E and Spice-1 household names. Continue reading “Milk-Plus Pits His Nerdcore Against the World” »

Forget the cheap sets and prop designs; forget (or REMEMBER!) Shatner’s priceless “I’m losing command!” moment in that elevator with Spock. Stories from Star Trek like “Let this Be Your Last Battlefield” and “The Doomsday Machine” captured imaginations worldwide with their thought-provoking, Ellison-esque philosophical insight — however shallow it might have seemed, y’know, condensed into a hour-long time slot. Of all the geeky pop culture that’s been accepted into mainstream and become cool, it still seems like it’s still not exactly super-cool to love Star Trek. You go to comic con and you’re far more likely to see Storm Troopers and chicks dressed as Leia, as opposed to Klingons or Uhura or even that bald alien chick from Motion Picture, if that’s your thing.
If Star Wars is The Stones of Sci-Fi pop culture staples, Star Trek’s kind of like Yes. Okay, bad analogy — but the video for ‘We Trekkies and We Know It’ seems to all but affirm such will always be the case, as a few devoted Trek fans Continue reading “Love Star Trek? Upon first watching this, I could have sworn the ‘Centauri Stripper’ was from the Arnold version of Total Recall, and that ‘get out of my mind’ line is by that crazy bald b*tch from Dune who melts Paul Mu’Diib’s hand in a box. That’s the point: in Jake Fleisher’s “Science Fiction Audition” they’re all supposed to sound familiar, because they’re all token tropes from the world of sci-fi pop culture.
Thus Mr. Fleisher manages not only to give several impressive auditions, but also call to attention the various stereotypical plot devices of what feels like every sci-fi movie ever made. There’s the ‘it’s not where are we… but when are we’ line, which sounds like it could be Bill and Ted via Tom Cruise; the “why do your eyes make water?” line, Continue reading “Man Auditions For Every Sci-Fi Character…Ever” »

The device made famous by Star Trek is quickly becoming a reality. The device that allowed the fleet to explore unfamiliar areas, amongst basically everything else, would conceivably allow our modern society to do the same thing.
“The open source science tricorders that I’ve developed are very much a way to help people explore and feed their curiosity for the world,” Peter Jansen, who created and built the gadget, said.
The tricorder project is being Continue reading “New Specs Published For Real Linux-Powered STAR TREK Tricorder” »

The Trek/Wars battle continues, this time with the next generation.
First, proof Liam Neeson is the king of bad-assery: winning in a fight against Patrick Stewart without lifting an arm or nary saying a word. In fact, all the Belfast-born actor really does is just sit there on Graham Norton’s couch, toothpick hanging out of his mouth like some Irish Chow Yun-Fat after he’s just smoked a bunch of triads (or maybe Ulsters in this case?). Your prayers have been answered…
O.G. socialite hooker Heidi Fleiss and Moonlight Bunny Ranch owner Dennis Hof have teamed to open what is surely the greatest thing since, well, the Moonlite Bunny Ranch: The Alien Cathouse Brothel.
Straight outta Area 51, this science fiction-themed hooker palace will be conjoined with – what else – a gas station and food store, officially designated as The Alien 51 Travel Center. According to TIME, there’s an opening date scheduled for sometime in the next few months. Continue reading “Science Fiction-Themed Brothel To Open Next Year” »

In case you hadn’t heard, the real life Princess Leia is in a huge battle with the real life Captain Kirk over which side is truly l33t — the Federation or the Alliance?
When Fisher and her breasts (sans metal bikini, unfortunately) clashed with the bulging biceps of Shatner, it was hard to tell. You might say Kirk started it.
“Star Wars is derivative of Star Trek,” laughed Shatner in a recent interview on his youtube channel. “DERIVATIVE!” Continue reading “Viral Video: Princess Leia’s Cleavage vs. Captain Kirk’s Biceps” »

I Don’t know exactly why, but I’ve never known a Star Trek fan who hated Star Wars. There’s a ton of Ewok fans that couldn’t give a rat’s ass about Picard, Shatner, Spock, and everyone ever involved the mythology Gene Roddenberry left behind (short disclaimer: only one is left standing at the end, though both sides seem entertained by the maker’s irreverent sense of good humor).
YouTube mastermind Colby Cornish’s video “Star Trek Watches Star Trek IV” is just that: The Next Generation crew, dumbfounded by, and arguably jealous Continue reading “Star Trek Crew Watches Star Wars; Bill and Ted Vs. Inception” »

Why are there no parodies combining Star Wars, Star Trek, and Lost in Space? This is the question that Michael Gabriel Becker poses via his YouTube Channel. One response is that all three of them are arguably perfect and don’t need the risk of being butchered into pieces. It would be like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters…
But at the same time, what if the elements of all three were combined into one series? If someone was able to pull it off, it would be the most epic thing to hit the internet in a very long time. Continue reading “Star Wars Meets Star Trek in New Web-Series “Mash-Up”” »

Numerous artists on Deviant Art have contributed their Manga versions of classic science-fiction shows — from Doctor Who and Buffy, to Star Wars and Star Trek and beyond — with the results being pretty damn outstanding.
Interesting to see the impact both cultures have had on one another. Count Allon-YYyy (a tribute to Doctor Who) by Alikurai, RisaChanTag’s Nesting Daleks’ and the Big Boobed Buffy by NicoleArt as among the favorites.
Uminga’s Chewbacca is another stand-out.
