Guess what? You don’t have to stop gaming when you get old. If anything, try and remember (provided you don’t have Alzheimer’s) that you should be gaming more.
In a new study at North Carolina State University, researchers have found that old people tend to be happier when they have a healthy dose of video games in their life. Continue reading “Seniors Are Happier When They Play Video Games, New Study Finds” »

A whopping 80% of High School Students see bullying EVERY week, according to a study published by DoSomething.org, with only 3% of students claiming that “BULLYING WAS NOT AN ISSUE AT ALL.” As if both those statistics weren’t alarming enough, the same study reported that only about HALF of students reported any peer intervention.
While these numbers probably don’t sound inaccurate to those who suffer the consequences of bullying, some are calling into question the validity of such claims, mainly because the study was conducted via facebook. We have about as much business getting policital as this guy does authoring a book called Common Sense, but we couldn’t help raising our eyebrows over this recent study.
Buyology, Inc. — a group which “measures the deeper, nonconscious, 85% of human decision-making” — conducted a study amongst 4,000 Republicans and Democrats, testing over 200 brands to see if a person’s political beliefs affected their brand of choice.
Turns out it did.
Chiefly, it found that Continue reading “Study: Democrats “Desire” The Wii Over XBOX” »

Research firm Nielsen today released its statistics on the most anticipated games of 2012 by surveying gaming consumers using eight key consumer metrics such as “Awareness and Purchase Interest”. The result is a total score compared to all previous games released for each console known as the Nielsen Game Rank. The list (below) shows the hottest upcoming titles for the three major consoles including Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.
While there aren’t many surprises on the list, we do learn what games are most anticipated for each console. For example, when it came to Xbox 360, Halo 4 (not surprisingly) topped the list with a Game Rank of 98%. Following closely behind was Assassin’s Creed III at 94%, and Max Payne 3 at 91%.
For the PlayStation 3, on the other hand, AC 3 was able to take the top spot with 98% followed by Max Payne 3 in second and Resident Evil 6 in third. For obvious reasons things were a lot different on Wii with the top three spots going Continue reading “These Are The Most ANTICIPATED Games of 2012, According To Nielsen” »

If we still haven’t managed to convince you that playing video games is good for the brain, recently there emerged what seems like the umpteenth finding by various University Research bodies (University of Rochester and Indiana University, respectively) that gaming is good for the brain (DAMMIT).
This latest study, published in the Wall Street Journal, proves that not only does gaming improve hand/eye coordination and overall creativity and imagination — but also, of all things – perception, decision-making, and, that lacking skill which can haunt even the most sober gamer: nighttime driving ability. Does your significant other get on your case about playing Skyrim for 13 hours straight? According to a new study from Brigham Young University, if you plan on having a happy marriage, they should probably start playing games with you. But is it really the videogames causing marital issues?
According to BYU news, the study claimed 75 percent of online gamers’ spouses wished they would spend more time working on the marriage and less time gaming. The researchers specifically focused on online RPGs like WoW when surveying approximately 349 couples nationwide for the study. Recreation management professor Neil Lundberg explained his findings Continue reading “Study: Online Gaming Hurts Marriages, But Gaming Together Increases Satisfaction” »

With just about every politician urging Apple to bring jobs back home to the U.S. amid Apple’s supply chain abroad coming under scrutiny for poor working conditions, perhaps it was about time someone mentioned the “App Economy”.
According to a new study, apps for mobile devices have created approximately 466,000 jobs in the US since 2008.
The numbers come from a TechNet sponsored study, with a little help from South Mountain Economics, which noted America’s App Economy “had zero jobs just Continue reading “The ‘App Economy’ Has Created Over 466,000 Jobs In The US” »

According to a Parks Associates study, which may or may not have been conducted via skype, the stereotype that men use technology more than women may have just been debunked. Not only that, females may be more diverse in their gaming habits, as well.
It’s no secret that women have a proclivity to shop and make more purchases than men, but for whatever reason, this mindset has always limited itself to clothing, fashion, and design. But consumer electronics has become no exception to this trend: Continue reading “Study: Women Use Technology More Than Men” »

So fellas if you’re not dating a gaming girl already, here are a few reasons to maybe make sure your next girlfriend is a gamer:
According to a recent GameHouse infographic/survey, girl gamers are a lot more happy, social, and sexually/physically active than non-gaming girls.
The infographic, which was originally published in Venturebeat, also shows that most use online gaming as a way to relieve stress, while others to connect with friends and socially interact. Continue reading “Study Shows Female Gamers Have More Sex Than Non-Gaming Females” »

An interesting new study from the University of Michigan and Microsoft, shows how cloud computing, and specifically the heat-generating servers that power it, could be used to cost effectively and efficiently heat people’s homes, buildings, and schools.
With Apple, Facebook, Google, and most of the major internet players recently beefing up their server farms to accommodate their growing cloud services, the study argues these “data furnaces” would improve Continue reading “Could Cloud Computers Replace Your Space-Heater?” »

Think back to the last day that you felt on top of the world? Was it sunny and warm outside?
It’s no secret that nice weather usually puts us in a better mood, especially those of us that live in cold, dreary, or just “boring places” when it comes to the weather.
But could climate and weather patterns shape soicetal crises and determine if a certain species succeeds or dies off? Scientists at the Museum of American Natural History are exploring just that, and their conclusions may surprise you. Continue reading “Will Bad Weather Determine Our Survival?” »

There’s a new epidemic sweeping the globe, with effects similar to drug addiction. Information withdrawal syndrome…otherwise known as a severe lack of Wikipedia and status updates.
A report called “The World Unplugged” wanted to study people’s reactions to unplugging from technology for a day. The results? Nobody could do it.
“Media is my drug; without it I was lost,” said one student from the UK. “I am an addict. How could I survive 24 hours without it?”
How could any of us survive? We need phones to communicate, internet to message people, and iPods to look cool. Stripping us from technology would be like poisoning the nation’s corn supply–it would be tantamount to starving us to death…just on a level of communication.
On the surface, the study doesn’t tell us something we don’t already know; we’re so plugged into technology that pulling out the cord would essentially be social suicide. But in reality, what the study focused on is the effect of quitting cold turkey:
As a student from the USA noted: “I was itching, like a crackhead, because I could not use my phone.” A student from Argentina observed: “Sometimes I felt ‘dead,‘” and a student from Slovakia simply noted: “I felt sad, lonely and depressed.”
But you could take away anything that I use everyday, from technology to a butter knife, and I’d probably have no clue what to do with myself. I don’t wonder what happens when you take away someone’s iPhone for a day, I wonder what it really means to be “addicted.” Continue reading “Technology: The Drug You Just Can’t Get Enough of?” »
