Kuroko’s Basketball is a popular, youth-oriented manga that’s enjoyed a pretty successful 4-year run. Production I.G. even turned it into an anime back in April, which debuted to some pretty positive reviews.
So why has the manga and anime’s creator been the recipient of so many vitriolic (some might even say scary) threats lately? Continue reading “Popular Manga/Anime is Inciting Some Violent, Hate-Driven Reactions” »

The bad news: Christopher Nolan made it clear last week that he doesn’t want anything to do with the new Justice League movie. When he says he’s done with Batman, I guess the dude means it.
The good news: with ‘Super Golden Friends’, we have what may be the next best thing: superheroes with adult diapers and living in an old folks’ home!
Which is where Superman and Batman would most likely be in reality (they were created in 1932 and 1939, respectively). Animator Kevin Bapp has devised a mash-up of both one of the most epic of DC Comics franchises and The Golden Girls, an early-90s sitcom show which focused on the lives of 4 senior/elderly ladies and their wacky hijinks. The end result is pretty weird. Continue reading “‘Super Golden Friends’ Parodies Both Justice League and Classic Senior Television Show” »

The folks at Mojang tweeted this morning about the first episode in the Minecraft created Youtube TV series The Arcan Chronicles. The initial trailer and first episode have now been released and you can watch them below. The show is created by Arcanite Studios, a small team of 5 that decided “they wanted more out of the Minecraft experience” and in turn the machinima, The Arcan Chronicles, was born.
The Arcan Chronicles follows a young boy by the name of Kael and a mysterious stranger he meets along the way. As the story unfolds , “the unlikely duo find themselves in the middle of a struggle that has festered quietly in the Kingdom for the past 25 years.” Kael and his mysterious companion set out on a journey to uncover the long lost secrets of the kingdom and “unravel a new mysterious threat plaguing the country side.” Continue reading “Amazing Minecraft Machinima, The Arcan Chronicles” »

As we reported some months ago, George Lucas promised he’d be retiring from the film industry this year, after a good 4 decades or so in the Hollywood.
The real reasons remained unclear: the director insisted he wanted to sort of return to the indie side of things (like American Graffiti, I guess?). Not much has been heard since, and some thought there still might be a chance: he was after all, still supposedly working on Star Wars: Underworld, a new TV series/pilot/movie of some sort.
Not the case, as Continue reading “So George Lucas is Really Seriously Retiring (What Exactly Happened to Star Wars: Underworld?)” »

Does anyone else remember seeing the Ranma 1/2 manga in comic book stores as a wee lad/lass? It began its run in the mid-80s and soon developed a huge cult following that loved it for its giant pandas and transvestites that changed sexes when it rained (one of the first manga comics to feature at least one transvestite as a main character.)
And yet several years after maintaining a Continue reading “Legendary Anime ‘Ranma 1/2′ Gets Live-Action Television Special” »

We’ve talked a lot about all the rumors regarding a potential Apple branded HDTV. Some are calling it the new Apple TV (not to be confused with their current set-top box), some prefer “iTV” (might have some trademark issues from a 50-year old UK TV network), and we’ve even heard “Apple TV Pro”, and simply “Apple Display”.
Perhaps “Apple Display” makes the most sense given it’s unlikely Apple will release a TV that is just a television. We already have hints at a Siri voice-controlled, iCloud integrated Apple HDTV, and it’s of course possible Apple plans to keep their current (or an upgraded) Apple TV set-top box around for consumers not interested in upgrading their existing HDTV. Perhaps the biggest revelation to come out of the recently released Steve Jobs bio by author Walter Isaacson is the possibility of an Apple branded HDTV. Jobs told Isaacson he “finally cracked it” when talking about plans to create an integrated TV that is “completely easy to use” and that “seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud”.
Today analysts are coming out of the woodwork claiming Apple is already working on the device and has been for quite some time. The New York Times published a report by Nick Bilton where he claims Apple Continue reading “Apple Working on HDTV with Siri Voice-Control and iCloud Integration” »

Bobby Brown recently announced plans to return to television, this time with ex-bandmates New Edition, with whom he helped sire a whole new brand of ‘boy band’ rock. Which pretty much became a joke after New Edition went away.
“We have a conference call every Sunday,” said Bobby Brown of the new reunion. “We’re putting the band back together. I think the thing that was missing with us was prayer. Being able to pray together and understand our differences. I think that’s what made us fight so much.” Continue reading “Bobby Brown Beats The Odds, Plans Return to Reality TV” »

With Steve Jobs’ officially authorized biography set to hit bookstores on Monday, more and more bits of information are beginning to leak. Earlier we brought you a look at several excerpts from the book on Jobs talking about Android, Bill Gates, and his biological father, among other things.
The Washington Post recently brought us a story where Jobs tells author Walter Isaacson about his ambition to build an Apple TV. A real Apple-branded HD television, not that set-top box, hobby project currently sporting the Apple TV moniker. Jobs makes it sound as if he has specific plans. By saying things like, “I finally cracked it,” it sounds like Apple may be hard at work Continue reading “Proof Steve Jobs was working on an Apple branded HDTV” »
