Dubstep duo Delta Heavy collaborated to create a soundtrack to all of your classic childhood toys as they’re brilliantly animated, and more importantly, brutally maimed.
Anybody else remember some of these collecting dust in the attic as a kid? Connect Four, Battleship, Scrabble…and now you get to see all of them being butchered, hacked, and ground up, and all in glorious stop-motion animation to “Get By,” DH’s latest. A new open source program called Mineways allows Minecraft players to print out their in-game creations as real-world objects using a 3D printer. The project is the work of Eric Haines (via VentureBeat), who has also put together the video below walking us through the process.
It starts by allowing you to select a portion of your in-game Minecraft creation, and then allows you to edit the model before exporting to formats supported by 3D printing services like Shapeways. As you can see in the video, Eric uses the software to export the file to Shapeways and ends up with a physical model of the in-game Eiffel Tower. His website is also full of tips on getting the most out of the software and gives us an idea of just how much it will cost you… Continue reading “Mineways Creates 3D Models Of Your In-Game Minecraft Creations” »

We know developer Rovio is trying to capitalize as much as possible on its little iOS franchise known as Angry Birds. First the developer made plans to open a retail shop dedicated to pushing Angry Birds merchandise, and an animation studio for Angry Birds cartoons. This was shortly after announcing the half a billion downloads milestone.
Now, the company plans on infiltrating local parks and outfitting them with Angry Birds inspired playground equipment. Reuters reports: Continue reading “‘Angry Birds’ Take Over Your Local Parks and Playgrounds” »

Etch-A-Sketch is often thought stone-age relic, but have the MacGyver-like skills of a certain YouTube user disproved that notion? Could rigging an old school NES controller to the toy enable one to more easily compete in the beautiful but small world of Etch a Sketch artists?
Judging by his elaborate rigging — which features an arduino microcontroller, hooked up to a stepper motor control board, which themselves are hooked up to the knobs — the idea is that one would have an easier time simply using the NES control pad to guide your way onto doing the next masterpiece (or just drawing vaguely suggestive pictures). A year ago, word was mum on the possibility of a ‘Voltron’ live action movie. Still amongst the most beloved of manga/anime/cartoons in its native Japan and especially here in the U.S., the possibility of those 5 robot tigers forming a blazing sword and kicking robeast ass was too good to be true. The possibility of the live action movie has sparked some outrage amongst hardcore fans who believe that it shouldn’t be anything other than a cartoon.
