Richie Branson is officially a workaholic. The man just finished his first nationwide tour (alongside MC Chris, often with somewhat unexpected results) and has released yet another single, crafted in honor of a big-ass and freakish looking bad dude from the anime series YuYu Hakusho.
The freaky-muscled alien-looking guy in question here is Toguro, presumably Elder Toguro (thanks YuYu wiki), in demon mode. It’s a fitting tribute to one of the genre’s biggest baddies.
Like Branson’s ode to Mobile Suit Gundam and his Continue reading “Daily Nerdcore: Branson Doesn’t Miss a Beat, Drops Tribute to Classic Anime ‘YuYu Hakusho’” »

As you’ve heard by now, Nintendo Power, one of the longest-running gamer mags in history, is ending its print run and will now maintain a strictly online presence. When it debuted 1988, featuring Super Mario Bros. 2 on the cover, NP was immediately the sh*t — featuring tips, codes, and huge maps that would fold out and basically show you how to beat a game. Sucks that it’s going to that big printed gaming magazine graveyard in the sky.
Fortunately there’s Mega Ran, nerdcore guru and just the guy to perform the magazine’s eulogy, courtesy of beats and melodies from RC Pro Am, one of the oldest NES games. Continue reading “Daily Nerdcore: Mega Ran Mourns the Official Death of Nintendo Power” »

It’s been less than 3 days since Ray Bradbury bit the big one, and already nerdcore guru Adam WaRock has taken it upon himself to pay tribute to the guy.
Hey, when any musician takes time to compose an ode to a sci-fi literary giant, it’s more than worth noting –as was the “F*ck Me Ray Bradbury” song from a few years back proved. Continue reading “Adam WaRock Gives Ray Bradbury a Nerdcore Memento Mori” »

In the two weeks since Beastie Boy Adam Yauch has died, the tributes have continued to pour in — but mostly at the hands of The Beasties’ music industry peers like Coldplay, Eminem, and Ad-Rock — along with the strictly fan-made youtube compilation tributes.
But it’s James Winters’ ‘Sabotage’ video that’s getting all the attention today, and featuring a bunch of kids chasing after each other just like the original, and decked out in aviator glasses, wigs and fake mustaches. If the invention of the green-screen has led to anything (besides dozens of films trying to be Avatar) it’s been the ability to pay tribute to your favorite music videos. Besides a little chroma keying, it never hurts to have a sense of humor — and that last component is what makes this tribute video to Jace’s ‘I Play W.O.W’., courtesy of dubmasterist, is an obvious success.
The so called “dub master” the Dumbasterist:
…Makes tributes to songs I really enjoy listening to. If you want me to make a dub video for any song you have in mind, just let me know!

Following up on “Cipher Agent Cypher” and “Jedi Nights” from a couple weeks ago — which paid tribute to Star Wars: The Old Republic — “White Reflection” is nothing more or less than an homage to all things Mobile Suit Gundam, in his latest creation, Wing Zero Mixtape.
Set off with the Mobile Suit anime song, Branson drops in with “Destroyin’ all these other rappers in my wing zero/I kill ‘em with my beam rifle/never have to reload“– so you know that even if he’s talking about something as seemingly innocent as anime, he still doesn’t f*ck around. Thus Branson is free to reminisce the way we all often do about Continue reading “Richie Branson Offers NERDCORE Tribute to Anime ‘Mobile Suit Gundum’” »

If you’re like us here at The Jace Hall Show, you’re probably a bit tired of all the tributes/musical renditions/violin covers of Super Marios Bros.
What you could really use, then, is a tap-danced cover of the Super Mario World theme (that’s SNES, 1990 — hey, what is this, chopped liver?). Continue reading “Super Mario World Theme Gets the (Surprisingly Awesome) Tap Dance Treatment” »

We’ve seen a number of different tributes from Steve Jobs mourners following the legendary Apple CEO’s death in October. Among the the tributes we’ve seen so far– a technical Grammy award from the Recording Academy, a silent audio tribute to fight pancreatic cancer, and even some impressive Minecraft tributes. The latest episode of Geek Therapy featuring American Young, Casey McKinnon and the crew at Comediva takes a bit more of a comedic approach to remembering Steve.
Set in a therapist office, the latest installment of Geek Therapy appears to feature a Steve Jobs mourner unable to talk until verbally assaulted about how much Bill Gates is more worthy of credit. America Young is appearing in her normal role as Geek Therapist, but Casey McKinnon is doing the counselling while playing ” The Best Steve Jobs Grief Counselor in Town”. Non-profit organization Moment of Silence Inc. is offering an 8-second long silent audio track on iTunes in order to raise money for various pancreatic cancer organizations. The company hopes iTunes users will “pay homage to Steve Jobs while fighting pancreatic cancer” by purchasing the 99 cent track entitled simply, “Moment of Silence”.
Proceeds from sales of the silent audio file will go directly to one of three charities including: The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, and The Lustgarten Foundation. The song’s artwork is an image of Steve Jobs as seen in the video below and the 8 second length is to symbolize the eight years Jobs fought cancer. Youtuber AndywithanM concocted a witty little video worshiping at the altar of all things Hunger Games — and after a couple days, damn if ain’t whipping up a fair amount of hits. Even if you hate Bruno Mars‘ “Grenade” and/or the HG books there’s worse things to look at than a cute blonde chick running around the forest and lamenting the omniscient presence of a Big Brother kind of govt. while dressing herself in raggedy outfits in front of a green screen (and damn if that doesn’t look like a decent 30% cleavage or so).
She also manages to do so without taking herself seriously, most succinctly in the lyrics, like this chorus: Continue reading “Viral Video: Hot Girl Pays Tribute to ‘The Hunger Games’, With an Overplayed Bruno Mars Song” »

Redditor and art teacher cheeseboyhalpert (we’re assuming that’s not what his students call him) has posted quite an incredible hand drawn portrait of Steve Jobs. The portrait was done using only descriptive words, a technique Halpert plans on teaching his students and also explains in detail in the description below.
As for the portrait, he apologizes that his handwriting became sloppy throughout the process, but promises the entire thing is made up of only handwritten words. The words used include: Steve Jobs, Business, Visionary, Success, CEO, Apple, Macintosh, iPhone, iPad, Pixar, iPod, Multimedia, California, Innovation, Marketing, iTunes, Network, SteveJobsFinger, and SteveJobsRing Continue reading “Incredible Steve Jobs Portrait Created Using Hand Drawn Words” »

The brilliant minds over at iMockery have assembled what may be the perfect NES game. No idea how exactly they’re able to do it, but let’s just say they’ve taken a classic NES game character — in this case, that big black dude from Double Dragon who kinda looked like an alien and was about twice the size of Billy and Jimmy — and turned it into what may be the best NES tribute we’ve seen in a while.
The game is Abobo’s Big Adventure, a free flash game that allows you to pilot the character through a slew of different NES worlds. With the classic 8-bit NES graphics intact Continue reading ““Abobo’s Big Adventure” Delivers The Ultimate Tribute to The NES” »

Celebrating 30 years of all things Evil Dead — especially Army of Darkness — here’s a collection of some of Ash’s greatest kills, all set to Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now.”
All right, so it’s our second Evil Dead post in a week, but this trumps the last. By a lot. Hell, it might be the greatest thing I’ve seen all week, maybe all year, as far as irreverent pop culture tributes go.
Man, listen to Freddie belt it out. And tell me these aren’t some of the queen-iest lyrics you’ve ever heard (no pun intended). Continue reading “Freddie Mercury Praises All Things “Evil Dead”” »

We’ve seen a lot of creative Steve Jobs tributes since the computer industry pioneer passed away earlier this month. Apple closed stores and posted tributes from over a million fans who wrote in to the rememberingsteve@apple.com memorial, then an iPhone 4S was sent into space in tribute of Jobs, followed by probably the most incredible hair art tribute haircut you’ll see.
Sony Pictures is even rumored to be acquiring the rights for a big screen biopic. Continue reading “Artist Recreates Steve Jobs Portrait using 3,500 Macintosh Apples” »

The images below are courtesy of app developers CoPilot who snapped these shots outside Apple’s Fifith Avenue store earlier today at the launch of the iPhone 4S. These days no one is impressed with the huge lines (it’s expected), what is impressive is the incredible artistry of this Machead’s haircut.
The main portrait of Jobs on the back of the man’s head (below) is based on the 2006 image by Albert Watson, commissioned by Fortune. Right next to it is the image of Jobs’ profile as the cut out of the Apple logo, a design created by Jonathan Mak (disputable). Unfortunately Continue reading “Impressive Steve Jobs tribute haircut at iPhone 4S launch” »

There’s a couple of things the library of Congress got right with that all-important catalogue of games, and including Zork was one of them. It was the first computer adventure game ever, written in the 1970s on one of these things in a galaxy far far away when there were no graphics – and mere words were all you had to guide you.
