He’s back…albeit this time Charlie Sheen is covering a different subject matter. Remember when having your first credit card was all the rage? You could buy things without really paying for them, and them enjoy them until the end of the month, when a number kept getting higher and you felt too much anxiety not to pay for them.
It’s probably as close as many of us will ever get to becoming a politician.
But this week, American Express, is making purchases with money you don’t have that much easier. No longer do you have to deal with the tedium of pulling your credit card out of your wallet, you can now purchase items through select merchandisers by sending a tweet (well, two tweets). Perhaps signaling the beginning of the end for the few remaining record companies, Britain-based HMV – a multimedia corporation best known in the music business — had a mass firing yesterday, terminating the careers of about 190 people at one of its England offices.
One of the employees happened to have the username and password to the company’s official Twitter account, and thus decided to tweet his thoughts live as he was being let go. The result is both hilarious, and, given just how mass the firing was, also kind of depressing. 500px suffered a bit of a setback last week when tons of its users began using the photo-sharing app to submit pornographic images. Under Apple’ guidelines, there’s been some changes made that should prevent anything like that ever happening again.
At first the reaction seems reasonable, since some of the submitted images allegedly included child pornography. Still many others aren’t too happy about what they see as further proof the company is becoming censor-happy and in violation of 1st Amendment rights. New Mass Effect 3 images have surfaced online leading some to believe that there could be some new DLC for the epic sci-fi RPG on the way. The two images (seen below) came to us courtesy of series executive producer Casey Hudson and producer Michael Gamble on Twitter this morning (via AllGasmesBeta).
At this point it is unknown what these pictures might be teasing, but chances are it is regarding some new content coming to Bioware’s ME3. The two mysterious images showcase a Krogan and a casino.
Along with the images the two tweeted about each others leak. “Does not look like a guy you’d want to mess with,” Gamble said pertaining to the Krogan image Hudson dropped. Hudson in turn, commenting on the casino image from Gamble, said “looks like a nice place for some R&R…”
Looks like a nice place for some R&R…pic.twitter.com/E3dQi5JFDoes not look like a guy you’d want to mess with…pic.twitter.com/jQlDVFs3
Gamble then followed up on Twitter once more with:
Enjoy your teasers. Two for the price of one![]()
The official Mass Effect Facebook page took notice of the two teaser images. The page reads:
“Casey Hudson and Mike Gamble both tweeted some strange images this morning. What do you make of it?”

Like we mentioned above there is no official word from Bioware at this time as to what these images might be teasing. Along with some comments last month from designer Joe Hendricks and composer Sam Hulick, most people believe the images to be teasing some upcoming ME3 DLC. Hendricks said, “pretty much every ME3 DLC writer here in Edmonton is involved” in creating new DLC. Sam Hulick added that this new content has a “high potential for tears.”

In case you thought Prometheus had provoked outrage over the supposed decimation of the beloved Alien franchise, or the absence of a codpiece on the Man of Steel was turning up some irate fans: Spider-Man lovers have taken it to a whole new level: specifically, death threats against Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott.
Predictably, these threats regard Slott’s supposed disregard for a beloved and time-honored tradition beholden to their beloved web-slinger. Continue reading ““Amazing Spider-Man” Writer Receives Death Threats Via Twitter Over Leaked Issue Ending” »

It’s been a while since Andrew W.K. — the pseudo-punk rocker-turned jazz pianist who made partying famous with songs like “Party Hard”, “It’s Time to Party” and “Party Party Party” — has really exposed himself to the public. His 2009 album, a series of songs paying tribute to Mobile Suit Gundam, constituted a minor hit in the anime world, but little has been heard from him since.
Still, W.K. made his name synonymous with partying, and apparently old habits die hard: as of this week, W.K. was set to become an official emissary to the Middle East as an ‘ambassador for partying.’ while, at least. Continue reading “Government Re-thinks Rocker’s Bid to Be ‘Party Ambassador’” »

Beer Robot put together this tribute to I Play W.O.W. Redux using only the bare essentials — little else other than some recording software and samples/bits of Jace Hall‘s song.
Beer (as his friends like me now call him) reached out to us via Twitter to drop this little nugget of audio L337-ness, and damn if it doesn’t put a neat little spin on Jace’s original.

Apparently that’s the case, as a group of researchers at both the Online Privacy Foundation and Florida Atlantic University have teamed up with a data competition website called Kaggle, using a mathematic system to make such determinations.
Via Geekosystem, some of the determining factors sound pretty random: usage of periods, curse and filler words (which, according to an online dictionary, are are empty, unneeded words that restrict conversations and are often used to fill in gaps and pauses in conversations — ‘uh’, ‘umm’, ‘well’, etc.).
Still others seem pretty obvious: amount of times the person uses the word ‘hate’ and words like ‘we’ (perhaps indicating multiple personality disorder?). Continue reading “DAILY TECH: Can Twitter Identify Psychopaths?” »

New Jersey Nerdcore fan Mike Taylor was at the Powerglove/MC Chris show in Philly Tuesday night when he decided to tweet something negative about Richie Branson, who was opening the show.
Seems that Taylor is (was?) a long-time fan of MC Chris, and felt it appropriate to make his feelings about the openers known:
“Dear nerd rapper opening for Powerglove/MC Chris. You’re not good enough to pander to me. Better luck next time.”
While I’m sure MC Chris loves his fans, he clearly wasn’t too big on the guy insulting his opening act: according to Taylor Continue reading “DAILY RANT: MC Chris Has Fan Thrown Out of Concert For Anti-Branson Tweet; Apologizes” »

Twitter is a lot like a beauty pageant, but instead of being judged for your looks, your ability to create a stir and gain attention for yourself is what defines the proverbial canon and what eventually wins you the tiara (otherwise known as a retweet).
I suppose it’s no surprise then that twitter feuds, controversial trends, and other tactics that most fifth graders would find pointless and/or immature are rather frequent. Case in point: the most recent incident invoving Ryan Perez, a video game blogger that nobody knew about accusing Felicia Day, one of the internet’s most popular and most liked personalities, as adding practically nothing to the gaming industry.
Perez ostensibly called into question the significance of Felicia Day as a celebrity in the gaming/geek world. Despite having thousands if not millions of other candidates to choose from, Perez not so coincidentally chose a women with millions of followers, who had friends with millions of other followers. A tweet from the Hitman Twitter page yesterday teased a “major” announcement for the franchise’s newest entry– Hitman: Absolution, coming May 10.
The tweet came along with a teaser image that bears a striking resemblance to that of another Hitman ad in the latest issue of Game Informer magazine. This leads some to believe that the “major” announcement will be the same info detailed on the GI ad, although nothing has been made official as of yet.
A scan posted yesterday on Allgamesbeta of the Hitman ad reveals what is called the “Hitman: Sniper Challenge,” which appears to be an entirely separate downloadable Continue reading “Hitman: Absolution Bonus Sniper Challenge Leaked” »

With the exception of a few, reviews for The Avengers have been overwhelmingly positive. Its tomatometer ranking currently holds at 93% fresh with critics, and 95% with fans. Arguably, it’s not always that easy for any movie to achieve such high rankings — so why isn’t Samuel Jackson happy?
Seems Mr. Fury has a bone to pick with one A.O. Scott, amongst the film’s detractors and a Chicago-based film critic who criticized the film for, amongst other things, a Tony Stark that too closely resembled Downey’s character in Sherlock Holmes. And more specifically: “the light, amusing bits cannot overcome the grinding, hectic emptiness, the bloated cynicism that is less a shortcoming of this particular film than a feature of the genre.” Continue reading “Samuel Jackson Lashes Out Against “Avengers” Critic – Does He Have a Right to Be Pissed?” »

After yesterday’s big reveal of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 debut trailer, today Activision has released an image teasing the come back of the franchise’s popular zombies game mode. Early this morning on the Call of Duty Twitter page, the image was posted depicting a woman wielding a shotgun over her shoulder, a skull in her hand, and the following caption :
“Zombies are coming…… Where’s your shotgun?”
The game’s developer, Treyarch, introduced Nazi Zombies to the COD series in Call of Duty: World at War and then again progressing the mode to be even better in Black Ops, so it will be interesting to see Continue reading “Zombies Will Return In Black Ops 2” »

All of us know a person who loves to tweet/post whatever monotonous stuff is going on in their lives. I guess that’s a relative term, but face it– when it’s all about where they are to who they’re hanging out with, the response, if internal, is often ‘who gives a f*ck?’
What Barely Political wants to ask is: could food pic-tweeters be some of these worst offenders?

As opposed to the guy from Wales whom, a couple of months ago, unabashedly made a habit out of racist trolling on the Internet — proudly dissing the dead, saying horrible, racist things about the innocent, and then getting away with it (not to mention shamelessly and aggressively confronting the journalist who hunted him down) – another racist troll has been handed a sentence and begun serving time, for similar acts.
This time it was another UK-based man, 21 year-old Liam Stacey, who hurled racial epithets at Fabrice Muamba, a player for Continue reading “Racist Troll Handed Prison Sentence For Angry Tweets” »

Who is the most hated band in the world? It sounds like quite a general topic, one that could set off a sprawling debate lasting for weeks. But judging by the petition signed by 55,000 haters to stop Nickelback from playing a Detroit Lions halftime show last year, the Canadian quartet is probably one of them.
Nickelback might not have done themselves any favors when, according to The Hollywood Reporter, they decided to strike back against a series of vicious anti-Nickelback tweets. Continue reading “Tired of Taking Sh*t, Nickelback Fires Off Vengeful Tweets” »

All it took was one tweet for Emma Sullivan to get launched into the spotlight.
The 18 year-old high school student from Kansas made a casual field trip to listen to her Governor, Sam Brownback, give a speech — and she wasn’t too fond of what he had to say:
“Just made mean comments at gov brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot.”
