We previously reported to you on the release of Hearthfire, the newest add-on DLC for Bethesda’s Skyrim. We are now getting reports from Kotaku about a fairly significant bug that seems to be avoidable.

The folks over at Penny Arcade have decided they don’t want ads on their site anymore, so they have posted a Kickstarter campaign to raise money in order to remove them.
The campaign, named “Penny Arcade Sells Out”, seeks to raise $250,000 to remove only some of the ads on the site, specifically the leaderboard. Apparently it will take $525,000 to have the Penny Arcade guys completely remove the ads from the home page. To remove all the ads on the site, they will need to raise $999,999. Today we get a look at the first Halo 4 pre order bonuses from Canadian retailer EBGames (via AllGamesBeta). The preorder bonuses include a Battle Rifle Skin and an Armor Suit Skin.
At this time the EBGames website says that the Battle Rifle Skin is an EBGames exclusive, which means it will most likely end up as a preorder bonus at its parent company, Gamestop. The Armor Suit Skin is not labeled as an EBGames exclusive, so it is unclear as to where in the U.S and elsewhere it will be available.
Firstly, preorders will land players the Arctic Battle Rifle Weapon Skin (seen below on the BR85 Heavy-Barrel Service Rifle). “Show off in Halo Infinity Continue reading “First Halo 4 Preorder Bonuses” »

Last week there was a rumored 99$ Xbox to be revealed according to The Verge’s anonymous sources.
Today Microsoft has confirmed that it will be selling a $99 Xbox bundled with Kinect.
The bundle will ship with a 4GB Xbox 360, Kinect, and will require a $14.99 per month Xbox Live Gold subscription for two-years. Much like we’re used to with our on-contract smartphones, Microsoft has also put in place termination fees for those who decide to skip out on the two-year commitment. The early termination fees go as follows: $250 for termination during the first three months Continue reading “Microsoft Officially Announces $99 Xbox With Kinect” »

Bringing the total up to 125 games that have had their online support shutdown, Electronic Arts is shutting down servers for 14 games, some of which are less than two years old.
EA released a statement announcing the “service updates” (via Ars Technica) that included a list of games that will officially be shut down, some on March 31st and others April 13th. Ars points out one of the games, EA Sports MMA, was an Online Pass title that charged preowned users for access.
Fortunately, you’re probably going to be too preoccupied with the largest DLC pack in history for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 hitting Xbox Live today to even notice. Today’s releases include Spec Ops missions and a new MP map for Elite members, and also the full collection of previous DLC with two Spec Ops missions and four MP maps in the full pack. The crossover fighting game Street Fighter X Tekken has 12 more playable characters due out through DLC. It seems a few determined hackers have accessed the extra fighters, although inaccessible to the public just yet, all twelve were already present on the game disc.
While this kind of thing happens all the time its not everyday we actually see the hacked content make its way onto the public game servers. It appears via YouTube videos and eye witness accounts that the hacked characters are already popping up in online matches on Xbox Live. There are a few sites that claim to be a Facebook dedicated to gamers, but nothing like a new service called “GFACE” being developed with help from Crysis developers Crytek. From screenshots posted by Kotaku, the GFACE is not only the ultimate Facebook/Google+ for gamers, it’s also an innovative online game streaming platform that scales from mobile devices to traditional PCs.
GFACE, like Facebook and most other social networks, will run your browser. Some of the innovative features highlighted in Kotaku’s report: integrated video chat, and drag-and-drop friend invites, and the ability to access your friends list to share content like Xbox Live– such as watching a movie together. A report from Kotaku today claimed Microsoft will upgrade its disc drive in the next-gen Xbox (720?) from its standard DVD drive to a Blu-Ray drive similar to the one in Sony’s PS3.
The report cites various “reliable” industry sources, and also claimed Microsoft was planning on creating a method of preventing used games from running on the next-gen console. Continue reading “Next-Gen Xbox to Sport Blu-Ray Player, Anti-Used Game Tech, and Smaller Controller?” »

As something of a follow-up to our recent piece on Nintendo, the AP released a few newsworthy bits on how the rest of the video game industry is faring these days. No reason you should care, if only to worry more about your Nintendo stock options and the fact that they’re doing worse than ever.
The AP acknowledged that Nintendo’s loss can be credited to the 3DS, which according to the company ‘hasn’t had many hit titles yet.”
Wii sales experienced a huge decline, and overall game sales were only about half what they were last year. In case we didn’t get the point across with our Nintendo story, it would now certainly appear that Nintendo is in some deep sh*t Continue reading “So How’s the Rest of the Gaming Industry Doing?” »
